The College of Wooster field hockey team could not pull off the upset over 19th-ranked University of Lynchburg on Sunday in a 3-1 loss.

Lynchburg (16-3) took control early with two goals in the first period. Both came unassisted as Jackie Lerro scored near the right post, and Maggie Chiappazzi scored off a rebound.

That gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead entering halftime. Kessa Romero made it 3-0 in the 39th minute on another unassisted goal.

Wooster found a surge in the second half and finally got a score through in the fourth period. Junior Caitlyn O'Connor scored her team-high eighth goal of the season as sophomore Katie Agatucci recorded the assist.

The Scots were held without a shot in the second and third periods and were outshot 31-6 for the game. They took four penalty corners and had to fend off 13 Lynchburg corners.

Goalkeeper Katie Shideler made 13 saves. It was her seventh game this season reaching double-digit saves.

The Scots celebrated senior day for three players - Emma Hambright, Grace O'Leary and Harriet Sudduth. They conclude the season with a 5-12 record.
