The Lead: The Roanoke College men's and women's tennis teams returned to action with their first match of 2022 on Sunday afternoon. The Maroons would play host to Lynchburg at the Elizabeth Campus Tennis Complex. The Roanoke women would pick up a win at #1 doubles but the Hornets would sweep the remainder of the matches for an 8-1 win. On the men's courts, the Hornets led 2-1 after the doubles matches. A Roanoke rally would give the Maroons a 4-3 lead with a pair of matches still undecided. A rally and three-set win at the #2 singles spot would seal the 5-4 victory for RC.

Women's Highlights:

  • Halle Fernstrum teamed with Julia Bassett to win a hard fought, 8-6, win over the duo of Christina Harris and Alissa Anderson at #1 Doubles.

Men's Highlights:

  • At #3 Doubles, the tandem of Dalton Capobianco and Hunter Adams cruised to an 8-1 win to get the Maroons their first point of the match.

  • The deciding match would come down to the #2 spot where Hardt Lesko dropped the opening set (6-0) before rallying to win the second (6-4) to force a deciding third set. In the clinching match, Hardt completed the comeback with a 6-3 win to give the Maroons their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win of the season.
