Women's Basketball Extends Streak to 7

The Guilford College women's basketball team hosted the Eastern Mennonite University Royals for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup. The Quakers took over the Royals with a score of 83-44. With the win Guilford extends its winning streak to seven-straight.

The Quakers (13-3, 6-3) started off by putting the first two points on the board within the first minute of the quarter by Lindsay Gauldin. With back and forth rebounds, the visitors tied the score 2-2 following a good free throw to take the lead. Guilford was able to take the lead towards the end of the quarter with back-to-back baskets by Gauldin and Anna Giannopoulou, 12-9. Guilford ended the quarter ahead 15-13. 

The second quarter started off similar to the first with the Quakers making a clean three by Taylor Dunn. Guilford maintained its advantage and increased the lead to 19 (34-15) with a jumper from Carleigh Perry, assisted from Courtney McMillanThe Royals tried to cut into the deficit but GC was too strong it led 47-20 at the break.

The Quakers were able to keep their momentum and came out with the first two points by Perry with an assist from J'la Hinson. With the exchange of rebounds, turnovers and fouls, the Quakers increased the difference to 32 (55-23). By the end of the period, EMU chipped away but still trailed 63-34.

The fourth started off with a good free throw from Guilford followed with a good layup from the Royals. By the middle of the fourth, the visitors were trailing behind the Quakers by 34 points, 74-40, which led to a 39-point difference at the end of the game.

Guilford was able to take advantage on steals from EMU, 22-10. Both squads were equal with possession as the Quakers held the edge in points off turnovers, 33-9. 

Individually, Gauldin led the way with 14 points and eight rebounds. Ashtyn Zeigler (11) and Amara Harrell (10) joined with double-digit points.


The Quakers travel to Salem, Virginia to battle the Roanoke College Maroons on Wednesday, January 18. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
