Maroons Fall to Bridgewater in Midweek ODAC Contest

The Short Story: Despite outscoring the Eagles in the third quarter, the Roanoke women's basketball team fell on the road to Bridgewater in ODAC action, 67-46. Madison Nereu had a game-high 11 points for the Maroons.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The two teams played it close in the first three and a half minutes of the first quarter with the Eagles having a slim 7-6 lead at 6:24. The Maroons would score two more points in the quarter off a Nereu layup at 2:36 with Bridgewater scoring 11 to take a 12-point lead at 19-8 after the first 10 minutes.
  • Much of the second quarter was like the first with the Maroons keeping it close to start before the Eagles used a quick run to extend their lead. Bridgewater would push their lead to 18, outscoring the Maroons 16-9 in the period.
  • The third quarter went in favor of Roanoke with the Maroons outscoring the Eagles 15-12 in the period. Peyton Kirchner and JaBryah Haverkamp each scored four points in the period with Haverkamp scoring hers on a pair of baskets in the final minute.
  • After being held to 12 in the first part of the second half, the Eagles used two small runs late in the fourth quarter to extend their lead and held on for the 67-46 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Sayre Brandstatter finished the game with nine points and seven rebounds for the Maroons.
