Muskies come up short vs. Lynchburg

Senior Alex Masinelli registered a career-high 43 points, but it wasn't enough as the Muskies fell to Lynchburg at the Wooster Holiday Tournament.

How it Happened

  • Behind five quick points from both Alex Masinelli and Tanner Gensler, the Muskies jumped out to 12-4 advantage.
  • The Muskies continued their hot start, streaking out to a 19-8 lead with 12:30 left in the first half.
  • However, Lynchburg would rebound and cut the Muskie lead down to two with just over four minutes remaining in the opening half.
  • Muskingum would finish the half strong, carrying a 48-44 lead into the break.
  • Both teams played back-and-forth basketball for much of the second-half, as the Muskies hung on to a 66-62 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
  • However, the Muskies would string together an 11-4 run to grab a 77-66 lead with 6:30 remaining in the contest.
  • Lynchburg would storm back late in the second-half and cut the Muskie lead down to one at the 2:18 mark, and eventually tie the contest at 90 with 47 seconds left.
  • The Hornets would then score four straight points to close out the ball game and secure the 94-90 victory.

  • The Muskies were led by senior Alex Masinelli who totaled a career-high 43 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
  • Freshman Alex Coffey also got into double-figures for Muskingum with 12 points and five rebounds.
  • Senior Carson Carter added seven points, while senior Noah Tomlinson, junior Tanner Gensler, and freshman DJ Donnell each chipped in six points.
  • Gensler was active on the glass for Muskingum, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
  • The Hornets were led by Tharon Suggs who scored 23 points for Lynchburg.
  • Lynchburg shot 33-of-70 (47.1%) from the field, while Muskingum went 36-of-71 (50.7%).
  • Lynchburg tallied 10-of-26 (38.5%) from behind the arc, while Muskingum shot 10-of-22 (45.5%) from three.
  • Lynchburg won the rebounding battle 38-33 on the night, while Muskingum forced 16 Hornet turnovers compared to 15 for the Muskies.
