WildCat Men's Basketball Hangs On For 63-60 Win at Greensboro College

GREENSBORO, NC – The WildCats of Randolph College led by 13 points at halftime and held on for a three-point win at Greensboro College, snatching a 63-60 road victory over the Pride in non-conference action from Hanes Gymnasium Thursday evening.

With the win, Randolph (8-2) equaled its longest win streak in school history, matching a five-game spurt to start the 2009-10 season last year. The WildCats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but the hosts posted back-to-back buckets to take their only lead of the game at 4-3.

The visiting WildCats went on a 10-0 run over the next two and a half minutes, going up by nine on a basket by Cameron Colquitt (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee). Over the nine minutes, Randolph would up its lead to a game-high 17 points with just over six minutes to play, as Dylan Shiflett (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry) converted a layup.

After trailing by 13 at the half, the Pride (4-5) rallied in the second half, outscoring Randolph by ten in the second stanza. The WildCats extended their lead back up to 17 just three minutes into the second period, but the Pride went on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to nine.

The WildCats' lead would continue to hover around double-figures for most of the half until Greensboro clawed back to cut the lead to 60-57 with 1:29 left in regulation. Randolph would push the lead back up to six points, but GC's Daren Dexter hit a three with less than five seconds to play to make the score 63-60.

After the WildCats missed a pair of free throws, the Pride had a chance to tie the game with a three-pointer but couldn't get a shot off.  Junior forward Derrick Woods-Morrow (Greensboro, NC/NE Guilford) returned to his hometown with a solid effort, posting a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds, adding a pair of blocks as well.

Sophomore Colton Hunt (Buford, GA/Smoky Mountain) posted 15 points, six boards, five boards and three steals in the win, while Pete Hamilton (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) scored 11 points on five-of-nine shooting. Caleb Pearson (Franklin, VA/Southampton Academy) scored eight points, while Colquitt finished with six points.

Randolph shot 45.1 percent (23-51) from the floor on the evening, knocking down four-of-12 from downtown. Luqman Tijani scored a game-high 16 points for Greensboro, and Michael Jones hit all four of his shots for 11 points off the bench. The Pride finished 24-64 (37.5 percent) from the floor. Randolph won the battle on the boards 38-35, while committing 16 turnovers to Greensboro's 14 giveaways.

The WildCats are off until January 5, as they jump back into conference play with a home contest against the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College in PER at 7 p.m.
