VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw on the road at Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday evening.

The Bishops outshot the Marlins 28-23 in a very high-shooting match, but each team only found the back of the net once.

Sophomore midfielder Juan Simoniello broke through for the Bishops in the first half in the 39th minute of action scoring unassisted. The Bishops would then keep that lead and a 14-5 edge in shots into the break.

VWU (5-1-1) would then tie the game up in the 65th minute as they out-shot Wesleyan just 12-11 in the second half. A scoreless two overtime periods saw the Bishops lead 3-2 in shots in the first, but VWU would shut out NCWC 4-0 in the second. The game was also very physical featuring 38 combined fouls between the teams.

Sophomore keeper Matteo Torchio played well making 7 saves on 8 shots on goal while Simoniello led the team with 8 shots and four on goal.

The Bishops fall to 1-4-2 with the draw and will next return home to host Mary Washington on Saturday at 3 pm.
