Hampden-Sydney Men’s Soccer Tops Emory & Henry, 2-1, Sunday In ODAC Action

HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney College Men's Soccer Team (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) opened up a 2-0 lead early through the second half and held on for a 2-1 victory over visiting Emory & Henry College (0-2, 0-2 ODAC) Sunday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

How It Happened
- The Tigers struck just 2:13 into the contest when Connor Brooks took a pass from Declan Shaw and put it in the back of the net. The 1-0 margin would hold through the end of the first half.
- In the 48th minute, Hampden-Sydney struck again. This time, it was John Alexander who found Brooks for the assist to make the score 2-0.
- Emory & Henry got on the board with 16:46 left to spoil the shutout as freshman forward Gavin Bagwell (Abingdon, Va.) struck paydirt for the 2-1 final margin.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Bagwell led the way offensively for the Wasps, scoring on his only shot of the contest. Freshman Bendsondy Pierre (Atlanta, Ga.) had two attempts while freshman midfielder Brandon Brito (Spotsylvania, Va.) added a shot.
- Sophomore Derek Akers (Hiwasee, Va.) made six saves in goal for E&H, playing the second half while sophomore Spencer Scott (Stephens City, Va.) added four stops in the first half.

Hampden-Sydney Individual Leaders
- Brooks led the way for HSC with two goals on three attempts while Shaw had an assist to go along with three shots. Alexander and John Vergara also posted a trio of chances.
- Gray Sutter earned the win between the pipes, making one save and allowing one goal.

A Deeper Look
- Hampden-Sydney held a 27-4 shot advantage and led, 13-1, on corner kicks.

- Emory & Henry will take on Randolph-Macon College next Sunday. The time and location of the contest is yet to be determined.
