The Lead: Roanoke had to make trip to Pulaski to host Pfeiffer University in a home, non-conference, game on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons defeated Roanoke back on March 2nd in North Carolina and the Maroons looked to even the season series. The Maroons used a four-run second to take an early advantage. After Pfeiffer came back to tie the score, Roanoke scored four in the fifth and five in the sixth to pull away on their way to a 15-8 victory.

Highlights:

  • An RBI double by Tucker Schiavoni followed by a two-run triple by Ty Staz would highlight a four-run second inning.
  • After the Falcons tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fifth, the Maroons added four more in the bottom half. Owen Lawn (single), Jonny Wall (walk), and Conner Butler (single) would load the bases for Will Smith. Smith singled to plate Lawn and then Jeb Byerley cleared the bases with a double over the head of the left fielder.
  • One inning later, Roanoke essentially put the game away with a five-run frame. A Butler infield hit would score Lawn after he had reached on an error. Smith had an RBI base hit as he and Butler would score on a Schiavoni base hit to center field. Jacob Bonzon delivered his second sacrifice fly of the evening to make it a 13-7 spread.
  • Thanks in part to another Falcon miscue, Roanoke added a pair of unearned runs in the seventh to make it a 15-8 final score.
  • Butler was 5-6 with an RBI and four runs scored. Byerley and Smith were each 2-3 and combined for five runs and five RBI while Schiavoni went 2-5 with five runs batted in.
  • Brandon Hill earned his first win of the season. Tanner James, Noah Basham, and Colby Roy held to lead with four innings of four-hit, one run relief.

Up next: Roanoke will be back in Pulaski for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) double header against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
