VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (February 28, 2020) – The third and final stop of the SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team's season-opening trip to Virginia saw the Broncos take on Virginia Wesleyan. The Marlins scored a combined 13 goals over the second and third quarters that set Delhi back as the team suffered a 22-3 defeat. Head coach Sam Miller's squad heads back to New York State to face off at Wells on Wednesday, March 4, followed by SUNY Brockport Saturday, March 7.

Aidan Costello had two goals and Ross Cange scored one, as goalie Travis Anderson tallied 27 saves on the evening. Cange's early goal just 46 seconds into the contest gave the Broncos a 1-0 lead that they held on to for much of the first quarter. But three Marlins goals in the final two minutes of the period gave them a 3-1 lead after one. Virginia Wesleyan kept up the pace by outscoring Delhi, 6-1, in the second quarter and 7-0 in the third period for a 16-2 lead to begin the fourth quarter.

Virginia Wesleyan held a commanding 70-32 lead in shots, including 49-20 in shots on goal. The Marlins also won 27 of 34 faceoffs and cleared on 32-of-39 attempts. The Broncos cleared on 23-of-39 chances, with freshman Nick Scarpa winning six of the Broncos' faceoffs and Nick Dower winning the one remaining.

Coach Miller's Broncos head back to New York State with a 1-2 record after a three-game Virginia road trip to start their 2020 season. Delhi opened up with a 20-3 win at Randolph Monday, then came up short in an 18-6 decision to Randolph Macon Wednesday. The first faceoff for Wednesday's game at Wells is slated for 4:00 p.m., while next Saturday's meeting with SUNY Brockport will begin at 2:00 p.m.
