UMW Men’s Lacrosse Falls to W&L, 17-6, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team fell to Washington & Lee University, 17-6, on Wednesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, VA. The Eagles slip to 3-3 overall on the season.

The Generals jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter. Kevin Cruz scored the lone goal of the quarter on an assist from Kristophe Newman with 2:20 left to put the score at 5-1.

In the second quarter, W&L scored the first two goals to up their lead to 7-1. J.D. Nozemack scored with 10:57 to play in the quarter that put them down just five. After two more General goals, Chase Kapuscienski scored in a man-up situation and the Eagles went to half down 9-3.

W&L scored the first goal of the quarter, but Logan Green scored right back as he put one in the back of the net after taking a hit. The Generals went up 11-4 with 5:15 left. Ethan Castleman and Brandon Davis both scored near the end of the third quarter to put the Eagles down just five, 11-6. W&L scored with seven seconds left to go up 12-6. The Generals were the only team to score in the fourth quarter and they netter five.

Noah Smith made five saves in goal for the Eagles. Bennett Miller caused three turnovers, while Jamin Lane caused two and picked up two ground balls. The Eagles picked up 22 ground balls and were 17-22 on clear attempts.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they will travel to Catholic for a game at 1 p.m.
