BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Behind a 28-point effort from sophomore Jessica Mullen (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley) and 47% shooting effort, the Bridgewater Eagles women's basketball team blew open a single-digit halftime lead with an 89-63 route of visiting Hollins University.

Both teams traded scores early with the game being knotted up six times in the process, including a 16-16 tie with 13:05 to play in the first stanza.

Senior Bianca Booker (Blackstone, Va./Nottoway) knocked in a pair of free throws to jump start a 7-1 Bridgewater run to open up a 23-17 lead with just under 12 minutes to play in the first half.

Hollins responded with a mini-spurt of its own to chip the Eagles advantage back down to one at a 23-22 tally with 10-and-a-half minutes to play in the opening frame.

With a one point lead, Bridgewater netted nine unanswered points, including seven from Mullen to jump out to a 32-22 advantage with eight and change to play in the half.

Hollins got the Eagles lead down to five before the Bridgewater lead teetered around double figures at a 46-36 lead with 1:38 to play in the first.

Over the final 98 seconds of the half, Hollins scored six of the final nine points, to cut the Bridgewater lead to a 49-42 halftime advantage.

The game was tied on six occasions in the opening half.

Out of the intermission, Bridgewater ratcheted up their game, going on a 22-7 run over the first six and a half minutes to build a 71-49 advantage with 13:21 to play in the game.

Hollins responded with five straight points to cut the lead to 17, before Bridgewater used an 18-5 run to establish a 30-point lead at a 89-59 tally with just under four minutes to play.

Over the final five minutes of the game, Hollins went scoreless from the field, but scored four points from the charity stripe to finalize the scoring at an 89-53 tally.

Mullen's game-high 28 led the way for the Eagles offense. Mullen was 10-of-18 from the field, including a 7-for-10 showing in the first half. The sophomore also chipped in a pair of steals and six rebounds in the win.

On the glass, junior Jenny Logan (Luray, Va./Luray) led the way with seven boards as the two teams were even with 41 boards each.

Bridgewater outshot Hollins by a 47%-to-32% margin.

The Eagles also forced 25 Hollins miscues which turned into a 30-to-19 advantage in points off of turnovers.

Bridgewater is back in action tomorrow, Saturday, January 8 when the team heads to Lexington, Va. to take on the defending ODAC Champions, Washington and Lee. Tip-time from Lexington is slated for 4:00 p.m.
