The Basics
Score: Roanoke 9 | Guilford 1
Records: Maroons 12-6 / 5-3 ODAC | Quakers 0-6 / 0-6 ODAC
Location: Greensboro, N.C.

The Lead: Roanoke College traveled to Greensboro for a single mid-week game with Guilford. The two teams would each score a run in the first inning, however, the Maroons put up four second inning runs and added a pair of sixth inning home runs on their way to a 9-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke got the scoring started in the top of the first when Conner Butler singled and advanced on a ground out. Will Merriken singled to put runners on the corners and Butler would score thanks to a sac fly by Jonny Wall.
  • After Guilford tied it up in the bottom half, Roanoke went back to work in the second. Mason Staz was hit by a pitch before Gavin Kandrick and Cale Agee walked to load the bases. Tyler De Meo singled to make it 3-1. Butler and Carter Plunkett added a pair of RBI base hits and then Merriken delivered a sac fly for a 6-1 advantage.
  • After scoring a run in the fifth, the sixth inning would see back-to-back home runs to put the game away. De Meo and Will Smith would each leave the park on back-to-back plate appearances.
  • Evan Parks got the start and went three innings giving up one run on four hits. Tanner James picked up his first win of the season coming in relief for five scoreless innings of one-hit ball, recording a pair of strikeouts.
  • Butler was 3-5 with a run and an RBI while De Meo went 2-4 with two runs, two RBI and a HR.

Up Next: Roanoke plays host to Shenandoah University this Saturday in an ODAC double header. First pitch is scheduled for noon at Salem Memorial Ballpark.
