The Lead: Tuesday night marked the final non-conference matchup of the season for the Roanoke basketball team. The Maroons welcomed Randolph College to the Cregger Center for the first of two games with the WildCats over the next 10 days. Roanoke found themselves down by 10 (19-10) before a big run would give the Maroons a two-point lead, 36-34, at the break. Roanoke broke open a close game in the final ten minutes, 57-47, to pull away for the 21 point win.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke controlled the opening tip and an Efosa Edosomwan layup gave RC the lead just seconds into the game.
  • The next three minutes belonged to the WildCats as Randolph scored nine straight.
  • Sophomore Kasey Draper nailed a jumper to stop the run, but the momentum was still on the side as the visitors as they built a 10 point advantage, 19-9, with just over 10 minutes left in the first half.
  • Draper would score to start the Maroons rally and after Justin Kuthan hit back-to-back layups, Roanoke had close it to just a single point, 21-20.
  • With 3:27 to play before the half, an Edosomwan score would allow the Maroons to re-take the lead.
  • Trailing by one in the final minute, Draper would feed Kuthan for an and-one to give RC the lead at the break.
  • After a Randolph three-pointer cut it to two, Nick Price drilled a three ball to push the advantage back to five, 48-43.
  • Over the next 10 minutes of play, Roanoke would build onto the lead and after four straight by Edosomwan, the game was well in hand, 71-52.
  • Draper matched his career high with 24 points to go with six rebounds and four assists. Kuthan scored a career high 20 with seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Edosomwan, just missed matching his career high, had 18 points, seven boards, and three steals.
  • Jordan Phillips-McLyod led Randolph with 20 while Evan Makle added 12.

Up next: Roanoke will host Washington and Lee on Thursday night. The game will be the first of the season for a Generals team that just got back to action earlier this week. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:00pm.
