Roanoke fell to Centre 2-0

The Basics
Score: Roanoke 0 | Centre 2
Records: Maroons 4-6 | Colonels 9-2
Location: Danville, Ky.

The Lead: Roanoke traveled to Kentucky for a pair of games over the weekend. The Maroons faced the hosts from Centre on Friday night. The Colonels scored a pair of first quarter goals and took the lead into the break. Neither team would score during the second 30 minutes as Roanoke fell to Centre, 2-0.

How it Happened:

  • The home team would strike first, netting the first goal of the night in the opening minutes. Another Centre score would make it 2-0 after one period of play.
  • Centre registered the first three shots of period two, but the Roanoke defense kept the Colonels off the score board. The Maroons would gain a bit of momentum to close the half, three consecutive shots, but couldn't close the gap and trailed at the half.
  • The second half started with Centre once again regaining control and the hosts would out-shoot RC 7-2. Thanks to a pair of saves by Madison Wingerter, the deficit would remain at two goals heading into the fourth quarter.
  •  With 10 minutes left to play, an Emilee Wooten shot would be saved by the Colonels goalie, on the only fourth period shot that either team would take as the Maroons fell on the road, 2-0.
  • Wingerter finished with five saves, going the distance in goal for Roanoke. Wooten would combine with Martha Hurley and Claudia Roncone to attempt all nine RC shots.

Up Next: Roanoke will remain in Danville for a Sunday game with Concordia (Wisconsin) that is schedule to begin at 11:00am.
