  • The Short Story: Washington and Lee used a big first quarter to create enough space as the Roanoke women's basketball team comeback fell short as the Generals came away with an 86-69 win on Wednesday evening. Nora Schroeder led the Maroons with 16 points and six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • WLU won the opening tipoff and ran down the court to take a quick 2-0 lead four seconds into the game. Roanoke responded by scoring the next four points to take the 4-2 lead. With the score tied at 8-8 at 5:37, the Generals went on a 20-8 run to end the quarter and take a 12-point lead.
  • The second quarter saw the Generals score 15 of their 19 points in the period from beyond the arc. The Maroons held Washington and Lee to fewer points in the period than the first, but the Generals pushed their lead to 16 points at halftime.
  • Coming out of the locker room, the Maroons jumped on the WLU by cutting their lead to 11 points six of Schroeder's points as well as five by Jacquelyn DeJesse, and four by Rose Sande in the period.
  • Unfortunately, the fourth quarter saw a reversal of the third with the Generals outscoring the Maroons by six to put their lead back to 17 by the end of the period to come away with the win in the midweek contest.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Roanoke led the Generals in bench points with a 49-23 advantage.
  • In addition to Schroeder's 16 points, Sande (15) and DeJesse (13) also reached double figures.
