Titans Drop Battle Against Yellow Jackets

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—The UW-Oshkosh Titans women's basketball squad dropped their third consecutive game, falling to the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets 55-49 at the Daytona Beach Shootout.

Bridget Froehlke led the Titans with 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting. Kayce Vaile recorded her fourth double-double this season, adding 11 points and 10 rebounds in the contest.

The Titans shot 36.6% from the field (15-of-41 FG) and shot 77.8% (14-of-18) from the charity stripe. The Titans tallied 24 rebounds in the contest and grabbed seven steals.

Game Summary

Vaile and Froehlke opened scoring on back-to-back shots for the Titans, on assists from Jenna Jorgensen as the Titans took an early 5-4 lead. Jorgensen ended a nearly three-minute scoring drought for the Titans with a 3-point basket and a four-point lead. Froehlke extended the Titans lead to six, their largest of the game with just under four minutes left in the game. The Yellow Jackets broke through the Titans strong defense, ending their five-minute scoring drought and answered Froehlke's made basket. The Yellow Jackets held the Titans to a single layup by Vaile in the final three minutes of the first quarter. 

Sarah Hardwick trimmed the Titans deficit to one with an opening second quarter basket. The Titans were held without a basket for just over four minutes, ending on a made free throw by Ava Douglas. Kennedy Osterman started a 6-2 run for the Titans late in the quarter as Jorgensen brough the Titans with two at 23-21 with a pair of made free throws.

Vaile made the first basket of the third quarter for the Titans, bringing the Titans within four at 27-23. Breaking through the defensive pressure of the Yellow Jackets, Froehlke found the bottom of the net on a layup with 6:24 remaining in the third quarter. An old-fashioned 3-point play by Ava Douglas brought the Titans with seven after the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to double-digits. Kate Huml hit a 3-pointer with 2:57 remaining in the quarter as the Yellow Jackets answered with a 3-pointer of their own. Keeping the game within seven, Kayce Vaile brought the Titans with five as the Titans entered the final eight minutes of the game. Mallory Lindsey and Froehlke made two of the Titans five 3-pointers in the final quarter of play as the Titans outscored the Yellow Jackets in the final quarter of play, 15-14.

The Titans conclude action at the Daytona Beach Shootout on Dec. 20 as they take on Roanoke College. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. CST at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
