Spirits Return to Triad to Host Emory & Henry

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After earning its first shutout victory of the season, by virtue of a 1-0 decision at Brevard on Tuesday evening, the Salem soccer team returns to action on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. when it hosts Emory & Henry at Varsity Field.

The Spirits (3-3-0) are looking to not only to capture their first win at home in 2019, but also earn back-to-back victories for the first time since downing N.C. Wesleyan (4-1) and Guilford (4-1) on Sept. 22 and 25, 2018, respectively.

Salem, which has scored 10 goals through the first six matches, has attempted 77 shots and 44 shots on goal in 2019. Ellie Montes leads the way among individuals with 10 points (four assists / three goals), while Madison Green and Baylee Greenwood have contributed two goals each.

Hannah Wagner, who improved to 1-1 in goal for Salem with the triumph over Brevard on Tuesday, leads the way in save percentage (.706) with a team-best 12 saves to her credit. She has logged 244:57 minutes in net for the Spirits in 2019.

Emory & Henry (1-3-1) captured its lone win of the season on the road at Averett (1-0) on Sept. 4. The Wasps have dropped their last three decisions in succession to Greensboro (Sept. 8), Sewanee (Sept. 13) and Shenandoah (Sept. 15) by a combined score of 11-2.

Emory & Henry has attempted 49 shots (25 shots on goal) in five matches, converting three goals along the way. Two of those goals were punched in by Amber Altice, who tops the lineup with four points. Meanwhile, Graysen Barrs has scored one goal and dished out one assist.

Natalie Capone (0-2-1) has served as goalkeeper in three matches, logging 290 minutes, while making 30 saves (.811 save percentage).
