#12 Men's Tennis Shut out Hampden Sydney 9-0; Fall to Wake Forest 6-1

ROCKY MOUNT, NC- The 12th ranked NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team rolled to an easy 9-0 win over Hampden Sydney College on Easter Sunday from the Slick Family Outdoor Courts. 

NCWC 9, HSC 0

The men cruised to a 3-0 lead after the doubles with an 8-0 shutout win by the top team of #3 Jhonny Acosta and freshman Diego Segovia while the senior duo of Max Robinson and Roberto Puig won 8-2. The team of John Falke and JP Vallejo then battled to an 8-5 win at the third line. 

In the singles, Wesleyan weas led by singles wins from Andy Fanzaga and junior Tshepo Mosarwa to clinch the match with 5 points. Fanzaga double bageled his foe 6-0, 6-0 while Mosarwa won 6-1, 6-1. Other singles wins included Matan Amitay at the six spot, 6-0, 6-2, senior Valentin Aniceto at the five spot 6-0, 6-2, Segovia at the two spot 6-0, 6-1 and finally freshman Luca Knese at the top spot winning 7-5, 6-3.

Then in the later match on Sunday, the Bishops traveled over to Wake Forest University to battle the 8th ranked Deacons. Wesleyan came away with a doubles win at the three line from Falke and Vallejo 6-2, but ultimately fell 5-0 in the match as doubles count as only one point. WFU won the top two lines 6-2 and 6-3 in doubles to win the best of three.

In singles, Segovia dropped a tough match at the six line, 6-4, 6-3 while Vallejo battled hard but fell 7-5, 6-2 at the two line. WFU then clinched the match with strong wins at the 3 line over Falke and the 5th line over Augusto Roca 6-0, 6-2.

Third ranked nationally Acosta then hung tough in the first set against the top player from Wake Forest but fell 6-4, 4-0 while Puig was trailing 1-6, 2-4 at the stoppage of the match.

Wesleyan now sits with a record of 23-4 on the year while Wake Forest goes to 31-5. The Bishops now head into the final week of the regular season and will wrap up conference play with a match against Greensboro College on Senior Day Wednesday at 3:30 pm.
