The Lead: The Roanoke women's lacrosse team welcomed the university of Lynchburg to Kerr Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons went to Lynchburg and defeated the Hornets in a non-conference game, 10-8, on March 28th. This matchup would be for positioning within the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings. The game was close with Roanoke holding a 3-2 lead after one period of play. The Maroons broke the game open with a 7-2 surge over the middle quarters on their way to a 13-5, ODAC win.

How it Happened:

  • Libby Bowman scored five minutes into the game to give the Maroons the lead. However, Lynchburg would answer but back-to-back scores by Lilly Blair would allow Roanoke to take a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.
  • The Maroons dominated the second frame, netting four goals. Bowman, Koutouzis, and Blair added their second scores of the afternoon and a Riley Chase goal would make it 7-2 at the half.
  • Koutouzis completed her hat trick to open the scoring in the second half. Tiernan Connor scored off a feed from Sydney Harrison and when Molly Kasemeyer scored, Roanoke had put seven consecutive scores on the board and held a 10-2 edge with 4:58 left in the third quarter.
  • Bowman scored on the Free Position attempt to add to the lead and when Connor netted her second goal of the game, the RC lead was 12-4. Nicole Harrison scored at the 7:44 mark, the last goal of the game as Roanoke picked up the ODAC win, 13-5.
  • Blair and Bowman led Roanoke with three goals while Connor added two scores. Claire Eisenhart caused five Lynchburg turnovers with Blair claiming five draw controls. In goal, Kyleigh Chickering recorded seven saves in picking up the win.
