How It Happened…
- First Quarter: The game only saw one score tied and that occurred in the opening frame at the 3:00 minute marker when W&L's Horn connected on a three-pointer. A trey by sophomore Carly Rice (Pennington, N.J./The Pennington School) on the next possession helped solidify the lead for the remainder of the frame. The Generals outscored the Bullets 5-2 in the final minute, but Gettysburg held the 22-20 edge.
- Second Quarter: A three-pointer by Yantsos 10 seconds into the frame extended the Bullets lead to five. The Generals then rattled off a 6-0 run, including another three-pointer by Horn to give W&L the 26-25 lead, holding the Bullets scoreless over the next four minutes. A jumper by senior Sofia Taveras (River Edge, N.J./Saddle River Day) broke the scoreless streak at the 4:56 marker and started the offensive flow the Bullets needed as the team went on a 9-0 run from there to close the half with a 36-26 lead at intermission. Gettysburg shot an outstanding 53.8 percent (14-of-26) from the field, while W&L shot 27.5 percent (8-of-29) in the first half, and limited the Generals to only six points in the second frame,.
- Third Quarter: Tinner notched eight of the teams 10 points to start the third frame and the Bullets led by 17 with a free throw by junior Meredith Brown (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) with 6:04 on the clock. Two three-pointers by the Generals and a lay-up brought them within 10 with 1:10 left in the frame, but Gehrin accumulated four points in the last 55 seconds to help the Bullets hold a steady 14-point lead.
- Fourth Quarter: After a Generals lay-up by Jordan Diehl 24 seconds into the final frame, the Bullets offense continued to flourish with a 9-0 spurt, making it a 21-point advantage with under six minutes remaining. Gettysburg held the largest lead at 23-points with a free throw by freshman Rebecca Blaszczyk (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) with 1:23 to go.
By the Numbers
- Gettysburg canned 25-of-49 (51 percent) field goal tries and hit 6-of-15 (40 percent) from three-point range. W&L finished 16-of-69 (23.2 percent) from the floor.
- The Bullets held the 53-32 rebounding advantage.
- Tinner's previous career-high in points and rebounds was 12 and eight, respectively, that she accomplished last season. She corralled her 16 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks in 14 minutes of action.
