Bishop Lax Wins big as Cucinotta Ties School Record

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College lacrosse team used senior Ali Cucinotta's school record-tying 11 goals to help them pull away and defeat non-conference foe Randolph College (va.) 19-8 at home on Friday afternoon.

Cucinotta scored 9 first half goals and added two more in the second half to tie her school record that she had set previously. Her 12 total points also tied a school record set last season vs. Randolph.

After Wesleyan got down 2-1 early, they then went on a 6-0 run using four Cucinotta goals to lead 7-2 at the 17-minute mark forcing RC into a timeout.

Randolph then put together their own 4-1 run to get within two goals of the Bishops at 8-6 with 8 minutes to play in the first half.

Wesleyan, however, would then step up their game and close the half on a 5-0 including four consecutive Cucinotta goals to lead 13-6 at the break. The Bishops then put the game away with 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to go up by 10 goals and ignite the running clock.

Three more goals later and Wesleyan led 19-6 with 8 minutes to play before the Wildcats added two late goals.

Cucinotta finished with 11 goals and one assist for 12 points along with 3 ground balls and 6 draw controls. Junior midfielder Madeline Graham and freshman attacker Blaire Harley also played well with each scoring multiple goals. Harley scored four with 3 assists and 3 draw control wins while Graham scored 3 goals with 3 assists amd 3 draw wins. Sophomore attacker Nakayla Chatman also scored her first goal of the year while recording a ground ball.

Junior defender Aydriyan Upchurch also led the Bishops with four ground balls while freshman goalie Devin Bautz made 7 saves on 15 shots. Wesleyan outshot the Wildcats 28-23.

Wesleyan improves to 2-3 with the win while Randolph falls to 0-2. The Bishops will next return to action on Wednesday when they head to rival Methodist for a 6 PM tilt.
