Roanoke fell to E&H 3-1

The Basics
Score: Roanoke 1 | Emory & Henry 3 (25-17, 22-25, 26-28, 18-25)

Records: Maroons 5-17 | Wasps 7-10
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke played host to Emory & Henry for the first time since the Wasps made the jump to NCAA DII. The Maroons took the opener, 25-17, and held the lead late in the second set before an E&H rally tied the match at 1-1. Roanoke once again held a late edge, but another rally from the visitors would see Roanoke trail heading into the fourth set. Emory & Henry used that momentum to pull away in the frame for the 3-1, non-conference, win.

Highlights:

  • A Linsey Bailey kill would spark a 4-0 Roanoke run to give the Maroons control of the first set, 18-11. After a Wasp score, consecutive kills by Peyton Kirchner and Rylee Mayer would put the set out of reach.
  • Kills by Bailey, Angel Ross, and Mayer would give RC a 21-19 lead and force an E&H timeout. However, the Wasps rallied to win six on the next seven points to even the match.
  • The teams would trade set points and a Bailey kill tied the third frame at 26-26 before another Emory rally would see the Wasps take the final two points and a 2-1 lead.
  • Emory & Henry used a 15-8 kill edge in the fourth set to take the match, 3-1.
  • Bailey led a trio of Maroons with double-digit kills with 15 while Mayer added 11 and Ryanna Clark finished with 10. Kylee Draper handed out 21 helpers to go with three service aces. Kennedy Clemmer had 17 digs and nine assists.

Up next: The Maroons will host an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tri-match on Saturday. Roanoke plays host to Ferrum at 11:00am and before the match will celebrate their four seniors in advance of an after match with Randolph-Macon.
