UMW Softball Opens Season with Doubleheader Loss at Randolph-Macon

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of games at Randolph-Macon College in the season openers on Saturday in Ashland, Va. The Eagles dropped the opener, 8-0, and fell in game two, 6-2.

The Eagles fell in the opener, as the Yellow Jackets scored six runs in the second inning and two in the third. 

Kaila Presbitero led UMW with a double, while Maggie Mrowka and Caitlyn Burch each had a single. Burch took the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs on nine hits in four innings, with six walks and one strikeout.

In the second game, Randolph-Macon scored four in the first and two in the second, before UMW answered with single runs in the fifth and seventh. Amira Shakir and Maggie Mrowka each collected RBI singles.

Mrowka and Morgan Gilbert each had three hits for the Eagles, while Shakir added two. Taylor Hudson took the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday at North Carolina Wesleyan College at 2:00 p.m.
