Roanoke Pulls Away for First ODAC Win

The Lead: The #9 ranked Maroons opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play with a visit from Bridgewater on Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons raced out to a 10-4 lead in the opening stages and stretched the advantage to 10 at the break, 38-28. The Eagles would keep it close until the final 10 minutes when Roanoke finally pulled away for the 83-58, Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win.

How it Happened:

  • Bridgewater would lead 4-2 before five straight Kasey Draper points would put the Maroons in front. An Andy Pack 3-pointer would tie the game at 12-12 with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half.
  • A Tripp Greene four-point play would see RC push their lead to double digits for the first time, 26-16. Justin Kuthan and Draper would score back-to-back layups to give Roanoke their largest lead of the first half, 34-20, with 4:00 left to play. The Eagles would close the half on an 8-4 run to make it 38-28 at the break.
  •  The second half would start with a Brandon Ellington 5-point run to push the edge to 15. However, Bridgewater would close the deficit back to eight-points with 14:16 left in the game.
  • A Zach Rosenthal three followed by another Draper layup saw the lead grow to 68-47. With 3:08 left and the score 77-58, the Maroons would net the final six points of the night for the 83-58 victory.
  • Draper finished with a game high 20 points to go with six rebounds while Kuthan came off the bench to add 14 points and six boards. Rosenthal finished with 11 to give the Maroons a trio of double-figure scorers. Efosa U-Edosomwan had nine points, seven rebounds, six assists, and a steal.
