Hampden-Sydney, Va. – Marymount University's men's basketball team fell to host Hampden-Sydney 62-57 in the opening round of The Car Coop/Weenie Miller Memorial Holiday Hoops Tournament on Wednesday.  The Saints will play in the consolation game on Thursday afternoon against the winner of Medaille and Ursinus at 2 p.m.

Senior Stephen Simoneau led MU (2-9) with a game-high 20 points off the bench.  Freshman Reed Scott added eight points while senior Bryan DeBruin and sophomore Aaron Walsh chipped in seven apiece.

Defensively, DeBruin paced the Saints with six rebounds while freshman Keenan Brown tallied a contest-best five steals and junior John Magnani rejected a pair of HSC shots.

Taking more than three minutes to log the first points of the game, both sides traded leads until the Tigers took the advantage at the 13:52 mark.  Hampden-Sydney (6-3) would push its first half lead to as many as 12 before taking a 28-17 lead going into the break.

Coming out of halftime, HSC went up by as many as 18 early before the Saints rallied with a 13-2 run to pull back within single digits down 41-32 at the 13:59 mark.

Keeping Marymount at bay, the Tigers held the Saints to at least a two-possession lead the rest of the way before Walsh knocked down a shot with one second remaining to pull within five.

Four Tigers scored in double-digits, led by Harrison George with 17 as a reserve.  Ben Jessee and Ru White both added 12 while Randall Ward chimed in with 11.

Marymount returns to action on Thursday in the consolation game against the winner between Medaille and Ursinus at 2 p.m.
