Records: Maroons 3-0 | Rams 1-1
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke College faced off with Farmingdale State on the final day of the 2021 Roanoke Showcase Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Maroons and Rams came into the match unbeaten on the weekend. Roanoke struck early and often, netting three goals during the first 15 minutes of action. The Rams would get one late in the first half but it wasn't enough as the Maroons ran their early season record to 3-0.

Highlights:

  • Just seven minutes into the matchup, Makayla Metzler sent a perfect pass to Cameron Shackford to get the scoring started.
  • Just over two minutes later, Shackford sent a touch over the defense and Morgan O'Neill won a one-on-one battle with the keeper to add to the lead.
  • On a foul outside the zone, Metzler converted the free kick into her third score of the weekend and made it 3-0 Maroons.
  • Farmingdale State cut the deficit when a run down the right side set up a cross to an open striker and the match would head into the break, 3-1.
  • Taylor Gallik made the lead stand up by making a pair of diving saves in the first 10 minutes of the second half to keep the Rams off the board.
  • At the 75th minute, Roanoke put the match away when O'Neill netted her second goal of the afternoon and third of the season.
  • Gallik finished the game with four saves and picked up her third consecutive victory in goal.

Up next: The Maroons will travel to New York for a pair of games next weekend. The first will be Saturday at Oneonta at noon.
