Volleyball Flies Past Randolph in Opener

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 win over ODAC foe Randolph College (Va.) in their season and home opener from Everett Gym Wednesday night.

The Bishops piled up 14 kills in the first set while hitting .152 en route to the 25-22 game one win.  The women then got out to a strong 7-1 lead in set two before going on a big mid-set run to lead 22-11 and go on to take it 25-13 with 9 kills and only 4 hitting errors at a .263 clip.

Wesleyan then went on a match-ending 14-6 run after trailing 16-11 to clinch the win. Wesleyan totaled 10 kills in the final set.

Senior All-Division middle hitter Lauren Weaver led the Bishops with 9 kills along with 3 total blocks while senior right side Sydney Barnwell totaled 8 kills while hitting a team-best .385 along with two aces, one block, and three digs.

Senior outside hitter Bijou Patel also played well tallying 7 kills, 2 digs and a block while senior Michaela Seawell recorded 6 kills, 2 blocks, 8 digs, and a team-best 5 aces. Sophomore setter Sloan Martin led the way with 28 assists and 2 aces while libero Kira Kristjanson tallied 8 digs with 2 aces and a kill. 

The Lady Bishops will now prepare for the two-day four-match Averett Cougar Classic in Danville on Friday and Saturday. Wesleyan will play at Noon and 4 pm Friday and then at 11 am and 3 pm Saturday all against ODAC competition.
