Shenandoah Women’s Basketball Upends Emory & Henry, 63-56, In ODAC Action

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University Women's Basketball Team (14-7, 10-4 ODAC) shot 90 percent at the free throw line on its way to a 63-56 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (17-4, 11-3 ODAC) Saturday afternoon in a battle between Old Dominion Athletic Conference foes.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry jumped out to a 19-10 lead at the end of the first period but Shenandoah responded in the second to close the gap to 26-25 at the half.
- In the third, the squads battled through nine lead changes before the Hornets finished with a 6-2 run to take a 45-42 lead with 10 minutes left to play.
- E&H tied the game at 48 and took a 51-50 lead with 4:48 left to play, but nine in a row by SU gave them a 59-51 advantage with 11 seconds on the clock. Both the Wasps and Hornets made the most of their final possessions, but the deficit was too much for Emory & Henry to overcome with Shenandoah claiming the 63-56 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior forward Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) posted a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, adding two steals while senior forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) tacked on 14 points and four boards.
- Junior forward Elizabeth Jones (Wytheville, Va.) had seven points while sophomore center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) recorded six points and six rebounds off the bench.

Shenandoah Individual Leaders
- Jordan Sondrol finished with 14 points and four rebounds while Olivia Weinel scored 13 points off the bench.
- McKenzie Mathis had nine points, 11 rebounds and two assists while Sarah Donley pulled down 11 boards to go along with five points and four steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot just 32.1 percent (18-of-56) from the field with five three-pointers. The Wasps made 15-of-21 (71.4%) of their free throws.
- Shenandoah hit 17-of-53 (32.1%) of its shots but was a white-hot 27-for-30 (90%) from the charity stripe.
- SU held a 42-35 rebounding advantage but only scored five second-chance points.
- The Wasps led 22-18 on points in the paint and 13-7 on points off turnovers.
