Lynchburg Denies CC’s Comeback Bid

Colorado College's comeback effort came up short as the University of Lynchburg defeated the Tigers, 76-64, in the Emory Holiday Inn Tip Off Classic on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.

CC utilized an 11-3 run midway through the third quarter to erase a seven-point deficit and take a 44-43 lead on a pair of made free throws by junior guard McKenzee Gertz with 5:10 remaining on the clock. However, that proved to be the Tigers' only lead of the game.

Colorado College pulled to within 58-57 on a Gertz layup with 7:20 left in the fourth quarter, but Erin Green drained a 3-pointer with 6:36 remaining to help ignite an 8-0 Lynchburg run and it never looked back.

Gertz led the Tigers with a season-high 22 points, which included 4-for-9 effort from long range. She also added eight rebounds and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Green gave the Hornets a 33-23 lead late in the second quarter on a layup, but senior guard Nia Duplain's free throw cut the lead to just four points with 24 seconds left in the half. Green made a pair of free throws with two seconds on the clock to give Lynchburg a 35-29 lead at halftime.

Green scored a game-high 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor and 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line. The sophomore forward also had a game-high 12 rebounds and added four assists.

Colorado College slipped to 0-2 on the season, while Lynchburg evened its record at 2-2.
