Fast Start Sends H-SC Past Men's Basketball

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Virginia - Hampden-Sydney College got off to a fast start this afternoon en route to a 100-62 non-conference victory over Piedmont College. The win moves the Tigers to 6-1 on the season while the Lions fall to 0-4. 

Hampden-Sydney led 9-0 less than two minutes into the contest. While the Tiger offense was rolling throughout the contest, the defense was firing on all cylinders. Piedmont was held to just two points through the first eight minutes of the game as the Tigers led 23-2. Shortly after the 10-minute mark, the Lions got hot from three, making six shots from behind the arc over six minutes to cut the H-SC advantage to just 12, 41-29, at the 4:06 mark.  AUSTIN THOMPSON and DYLAN DELANEY each came off the bench to knock down three trifectas apiece to spur the run.

H-SC led 54-31 at the break and would use a 23-9 run to start the second half to put the game out of reach.

Harrison George posted a strong stat line of 24 points (11-17 FG), nine rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Greg Lewis was the only other Tiger in double-figures with 16 points as he made 6-8 shots and 4-5 from deep range.

JESSIE JENKINS had a team-high 17 points, shooting 7-13 from the floor. Delaney contributed 14 points and four three pointers while Thompson added 11 points and three trifectas.

Hampden-Sydney shot 52.5% (42-80) for the game while Piedmont was just 38.6% (22-57), and each team made ten three pointers. H-SC outrebounded PC 44-32 and forced 24 Lions turnovers compared to just 12 for the Tigers. The Tigers turned the turnovers into points, scoring 35 off the 24 Piedmont giveaways. H-SC dominated the paint, registering a 54-16 advantage in points in the paint.
