Roanoke Sweeps Royals in ODAC Opener

The Basics

The Lead: The Roanoke Softball team sweep the Royals in their ODAC opener. After being rained out for two days the Maroons came out on fire with combined 17 hits between the two games. The Maroons improve their record to 8-6.

Highlights:

  • The Maroons took an early lead in game one with Adriana Rivera doubling into left field to score Morgan Clark.
  • After four scoreless innings Madison Courts belted a home run over the left field fence bringing the score to 3-0. The Maroons were able to hold on to this lead for the remainder of the game.

Highlights:

  • Game two started similar to game one with the Maroons taking the early lead. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first Serenity Bishop reached on a fielder's choice and scored Meri Bostic. Lauren Hoffman singled into center field scoring Rivera and Clark and advancing Bishop to second. Lilly Burns followed in Hoffmans footsteps with a single to left field scoring Amber Vaughn who was put in to pinch run for Bishop.
  • In the second inning Rivera singled center field allowing for Clark and Courts to score. Hoffman brought in Rivera with a single into left field. Burns doubled into right center field and scored Hoffman.
  • With bases loaded again in the bottom of the third Bishop singled into center field scoring Clark and Courts bringing the score up to 10-0. Hoffman remaining hot singled into center field scoring Rivera. Rachel Sirbaugh was able to reach first by an error by the short stop which allowed Lauryn Chappell to score.  
  • Hoffman went three for three in game two with four RBI's. Rivera went 2 for 3 with two RBI's. Burns went 2 for 2 with two RBI's. Bishop had three RBIs on the day.

 

Up next: Roanoke will travel down to Greensboro Wednesday April 5th to face the Quakers of Guilford and continue their ODAC play. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm.
