Bridgewater Volleyball Evades Emory & Henry, 3-2, Wednesday In ODAC Finale

EMORY, Va. – The Bridgewater College Volleyball Team (7-4, 7-4 ODAC) needed all five sets in order to escape with a 3-2 victory against Emory & Henry College (3-7, 3-7 ODAC) in the final regular-season game for both squads. The Eagles won the match by scores of 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-18 and 15-6.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry opened up a 5-2 lead early in the opening set but Bridgewater responded to tie the contest at 9-all. Five straight points by the Wasps followed by a five-point run by the Eagles made it 14-all. The squads continued to go back and forth to a 22-22 tie. E&H scored three of the next four to take the set, 25-23.
- In the second, BC pushed its way out to a 12-5 lead but E&H closed the gap to 14-11. Two points by the Eagles set up a 7-2 run by the Wasps to tie things up at 18-each. Bridgewater rallied through the final points of the frame to tie things up 1-1 in the match.
- Bridgewater got out to a 10-6 lead but an 11-3 run by Emory & Henry made it 17-13. The Eagles closed the gap to 17-16 but the Wasps scored eight of the final 13 points of the frame to win, 25-20, and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
- BC grabbed a 10-6 lead early in the fourth and used an 8-4 run to extend the margin to 18-10. E&H responded with six of the next seven to close the gap to 19-16 but the Eagles closed things out for a 25-18 win.
- In the fifth, Bridgewater stormed out to a 10-0 lead. Emory & Henry recomposed itself but the deficit was too much to overcome as BC won the set, 15-6, and the match, 3-2.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman middle Hannah Watson (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the Wasps with 16 kills (16-4-30) and four blocks while sophomore right-side hitter Carley Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) and 12 kills.
- Freshman outside hitter Abbie Hutzler (Fairview, N.C.) posted seven kills, four aces and 13 digs while junior outside hitter Delaini Nagy (Clover, S.C.) wnet for nine kills, and two blocks.
- Sophomore setter Marissa Snapp (Chuckey, Tenn.) had 25 assists and six digs while sophomore setter Abbie Dillon (Goodview, Va.) added 18 assists and five digs.
- Freshman libero Sarah Moore (Kingsport, Tenn.) had a team-high 15 digs while sophomore defensive specialist Savanah Keesee (Madison Heights, Va.) added 12 digs.

Bridgewater Individual Leaders
- Hope Jennings paced the Eagles with 16 kills and 16 digs, adding four aces while Sienna Sullivan tacked on 16 kills, five blocks and two aces.
- Grace Hayes had 45 assists, four kills, six digs and five blocks in the contest while Jyailah Friendly went for 13 digs and six assists.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will now await the release of the ODAC Tournament pairings which are scheduled to be released on Sunday in conjunction with the conclusion of the regular season. The Wasps currently sit in a tie for eighth place in the league standings with Eastern Mennonite University.
