Bethany Men’s Basketball Stuns Emory & Henry, 75-72, On Last-Second Shot Sunday In Captains Shootout

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Bethany (W.Va.) College Men's Basketball Team (1-10) earned its first win of the year in thrilling fashion as it hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to defeat Emory & Henry College (3-8) by a 75-72 score in the consolation game of the Holiday Inn Captains Shootout.

How It Happened
- Bethany jumped out to a 13-3 lead at the 16:05 mark of the first half and pushed the margin to 27-13 five and a half minutes later.
- Down by 13 with 6:53 to go before the break, the Wasps scored 16 of the next 19 points to tie the contest at 36-all.  The Bison hit the last five of the period to take a 41-36 margin into the locker room.
- E&H opened the second half on a 14-2 run to take a 50-43 advantage with 12:35 left to play. The Wasps led by as much as eight (56-48) midway through the frame before the Bison used a 15-6 scoring spurt to go back ahead, 63-62, for their first advantage since the 16:25 mark of the period.
- The two squads battled through six more ties and four more lead changes in the final four minutes of the game with Emory & Henry holding a four-point lead with 2:37 to go. Bethany went on a 6-2 run to knot the contest at 72 with 33 seconds left and forced a turnover on E&H's next possession.
- With the score tied at 72 and 0.4 seconds remaining on the clock, Dalton Hamrick hit a three-pointer as time expired from the right wing to give the Bison the victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman guard Kevin Grau Rodriguez (Tampa, Fla.) had 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists while sophomore guard Anthony Williams (Lynchburg, Va.) added 14 points, six boards, four steals and two assists off the bench.
- Sophomore Micah Banks (Simpsonville, S.C.) put up 13 points and seven rebounds while sophomore guard Jordan Grant (Orlando, Fla.) finished with 13 points and three boards.

Bethany Individual Leaders
- Neshawn Brown led all players with 24 points, adding six rebounds and three assists while Dylan Furlong tacked on 14 points, nine boards and four blocks.
- Hamrick scored 13 points, none more important than the buzzer-beater, to go along with sesven rebounds while Derek White, Jr. had 10 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three blocks.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry went just 22-of-73 (30.1%) from the field with nine three-pointers and shot 79.2 percent (19-for-24) from the line.
- Bethany hit 45.6 percent (26-of-57) of its shots and also made nine triples. The Bison were 14-of-20 (70%) at the stripe.
- E&H held a 46-41 rebounding advantage and used 20 offensive boards to outscore BC, 15-12.
- The Wasps outscored the Bison, 19-10, on points off turnovers, but Bethany held a 30-22 lead on points in the paint.

- Emory & Henry will return home next Saturday as it enters the heart of Old Dominion Athletic Conference play against No. 7 Randolph-Macon College. Tipoff between the Wasps and Yellow Jackets will be at 2:00 p.m.
