UMW Baseball Drops 8-4 Decision at Shenandoah on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped an 8-4 decision t Shenandoah University on Wednesday afternoon in Winchester, Va. The Eagles slip to 15-16 on the season.

The Eagles jumped ahead in the first, as Jonathan Sedmak connected for a solo home run. The Hornets responded with two in the first, two in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one in the seventh. 

UMW responded with three runs in the ninth. Ty Lowe walked, before Noah Roots and Xavier Herring singled to load the bases. Nick Ciuffreda provided a two-run single, and Bobby Ayscue followed with an RBI single.

Ayscue was 3-5 to lead the Eagle offense, while Sedmak homered and singled and Roots and Luke Guerzon each had a pair of hits. 

Brendan McComber took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in 4.1 innings, with four walks and one strikeout.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit Wilson College for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
