Lynchburg Enters NCAA Baseball Tourney

Hornets Headed to CNU for Six-Team Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Two weeks have passed since the end of the ODAC Baseball Tournament, but Lynchburg College now knows when and where it will play in the 2012 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.  The Hornets, winners of the ODAC's automatic bid, will travel to Newport News, Va., to participate in one of eight regional pods beginning on Wednesday, May 16.

The 2012 field features 56 teams from across the country divided amongst eight regional sites that will play under a double-elimination format.  Four six-team and four eight-team regional pods, including the six-squad Newport News regional, will determine who makes the trip to Appleton, Wis. and Fox Cities Stadium on May 25-29 for the NCAA Division III National Championship Series.

Lynchburg (34-8) did not waste any time in the ODAC Tournament, winning four straight games to punch its ticket to the national postseason.  The Hornets will play as the fifth seed at Captains Baseball Park on the campus of Christopher Newport University.  Joining LC will be (by seed) #1 Christopher Newport (30-7), #2 Salisbury University (31-7), #3 Shenandoah University (29-11), #4 Rowan University (30-13), and #6 Messiah College (19-23).

Of its regular season opponents, Lynchburg has only met Shenandoah this season.  The two squads, of which Shenandoah will be the newest ODAC full-time member beginning with the 2012 fall campaign, split a double-header in late March.  SU shutout LC, 3-0, in game one, but Lynchburg came back to post a 6-1 victory in the nightcap.

Listed below is information (to be updated as it becomes available) regarding each of the eight regional sites, as well as brackets for the championship round.  For more information on the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament, visit the websites of any of the participating schools, or go to the NCAA's home on the Internet at www.ncaa.com.  For more on ODAC Baseball, go to www.odaconline.com.
