Bridgewater, Randolph-Macon Enter NCAA Baseball Tournament

Both Head to Tennessee for Regional Play

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Just two NCAA Division III championship events that will feature ODAC athletes have yet to begun, but one saw its field announced late Sunday evening.  Bridgewater College and Randolph-Macon College will represent the ODAC in the 2013 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.  Both squads will play out of the same regional in Millington, Tenn., hosted by Rhodes College.

The field for the 2013 event is 56 teams deep, comprised of 38 automatic entries, four independent qualifiers (pool B), and 14 at-large selections (pool C).  Play in the double-elimination format begins with eight regional pods throughout the country on May 15-19.  Four regional groupings feature six teams, while the remaining four pods pit eight teams playing for one of eight spots in the national championship series that is set for May 24-28 at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisc.

Randolph-Macon (23-17-1) and Bridgewater (33-11) are two of the six teams competing at Rhodes.  The Yellow Jackets punched their ticket to the tournament by earning the ODAC's automatic bid after defeating the Eagles twice on the final day of the ODAC Tournament to capture the league crown.  R-MC will play as the fifth seed seed and meet second-seeded Salisbury University (30-7) in the second game of the first round.  The Sea Gulls are in the field via the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) automatic qualifier.

Bridgewater, which earned an at-large bid to the field, will be the fourth seed thanks to its regional-ranking position (BC was 4th, R-MC 6th in the final regional rankings).  The Eagles meet third-seeded Millsaps College (34-11) in game three.  The Majors picked up one of the pool B bids as an independent institution.

The other two remaining teams in the pod are top-seeded Huntingdon College (30-9) and six-seeded Methodist University (24-20).  Those schools will meet in the first game of the Rhodes regional fixtures.  The Hawks join Millsaps as a pool B entrant, while the Monarchs won the USA South Athletic Conference tournament and picked put that league's automatic bid.
