2019 ODAC Baseball Players of the Week

  • Robbie Edwards, Roanoke, Sr., Catcher
    April 29, 2019
    Edwards, a senior from Hampton, Va., displayed impressive power with four of his five hits leaving the yard in Roanoke's 3-0 week. He opened with a three homerun day in a 7-6 victory at Ferrum. He drove in five runs in total, crushing a two-run shot to left to open the game's scoring in the second inning. He belted a solo shot to left in the seventh to pull the Maroons to within one at 6-5, and then completed their comeback with the would-be game-winning two-run jolt in the top of the ninth. Edwards was back at it in game one against Lynchburg over the week, reaching base in four of his five plate appearances. That included a three-run jack to left in bottom of the first to stake RC to a 3-0 lead on the way to an eventual 6-5 win. While he did not register a hit in game two, he did walk twice and scored a run in the Maroons' 10-7 triumph to close the regular season.
  • Nick Roth, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Pitcher
    April 29, 2019
    Roth, a senior from Henrico, Va., capped the regular season with two wins over a pair of starts to improve to 8-0 on the season and 24-2 in his career. the 24 wins are a new record at Randolph-Macon. Roth went the distance in a 6-1 win over Ferrum. He gave up one run on five hits without a walk and 10 strikeouts. He returned to the hill five days later and went 7.0 frames on the way to a 5-3 win over Washington and Lee. He surrendered three runs on eight hits. He did not walk a batter for the second straight start and fanned 11 Generals. That marked his fourth overall and third straight appearance recording 10 or more strikeouts on the season.
  • Chase Counts, Hampden-Sydney, Jr., 2nd Base
    April 22, 2019
    Counts, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., brought out his power bat to help Hampden-Sydney to a 2-1 week. Counts slashed .600/.667/1.467 as he went 9-for-15 with a double, four homers, three walks, nine RBI, and nine runs scored. He opened with a 4-for-5 day in an 11-3 win over Lynchburg. He drove in a run and scored three times to go with a double and a steal. In a split with Shenandoah, Counts belted two homers in game one to go with four RBI and three runs scored in a 20-6 victory. He left the yard two more times in game two, driving in a pair and scoring three more runs in a 17-14 setback. He walked three times in that series. For the season, Counts is fifth in the ODAC with a .378 average and fourth with a .615 slugging percentage. He is first in runs scored (39) and total bases (83), second in hits (51), and third in homeruns (7). He is ninth with 29 RBI.
  • Andrew Earvolino, Washington and Lee, Sr., Pitcher
    April 22, 2019
    Earvolino, a senior from Wilmette, Ill., helped the Generals to a pair of victories with two relief appearances in conference road games. Earvolino's first outing was a highlight effort in a 6-5 win at Bridgewater. He entered the game trailing, 2-0, with nobody out and the bases. Not only did he registered three straight outs, but he went on to toss a career-high innings. Earvolino surrendered one unearned run while scattering five hits. He did not walk a batter and fanned six. Earvolino also worked an inning in a 12-11 win at Emory & Henry, giving up one run and striking out a batter. For the season, Earvolino has made 11 appearances, all in relief. He has struck out 12 batters and owns a 3.06 ERA in 17.2 innings of work.
  • Keegan Woolford, Shenandoah, Jr., Outfielder
    April 15, 2019
    Woolford, a junior from Charlottesville, Va., was run-generating machine for the Hornets last week as he had a hand in 19 of the 38 runs scored by Shenandoah. Woolford slashed .471/.571/1.059 with four of his hits going for extra bases. He drove in 13 runs and scored another six in SU's 3-1 week. In a week-opening 12-10 setback to Bridgewater, Woolford crashed a three-run homer, walked four times, drove in four runs in total, and scored three times. He went 4-for-6 in the next contest, a 16-3 triumph at Dickinson. He doubled and hit a two-run blast, driving in three runs for the game and scoring two times. He also stole a base. Woolford then went 3-for-9 with a homer, six RBI, and a run scored in a sweep (2-1, 8-6) of Ferrum. He drove in those six runs in game two, including a two-run shot to center in the top of the first. For the season, Woolford is hitting .330 with an ODAC sixth-best .460 OBP and 10th-ranked .557 SLG. He is second in RBI (33), fourth in homers (5), and fifth in walks (21).
  • Nick Roth, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Starting Pitcher
    April 15, 2019
    Roth, a senior from Henrico, Va., was dominant in seven shutout innings during the nationally 13th-ranked Yellow Jackets 12-1 victory at Roanoke. Roth scattered five hits and walked one batter while setting a new career-high with 15 strikeouts. The win moved him to 6-0 on the season and marked a Randolph-Macon record 22 career wins for the right-hander. Roth struck out at least one batter in each inning against the Maroons. He fanned the side in the second and worked around baserunners to record all three outs via punchouts in the fifth and seventh frames. Roth owns an ODAC-best 1.87 ERA in 53.0 innings on the hill. He also leads the conference in strikeouts (58) and strikeouts per game (9.85).
  • Ray Tricarico, Eastern Mennonite, So., Catcher
    April 08, 2019
    Tricarico, a sophomore from Culpeper, Va., put together a strong and timely week as he recently returned from injury to help lead the Royals to a 2-1 week. Tricarico slashed .615/.643/.846 in going 8-for-13 with a double, triple, two RBI, and five runs scored in addition to a walk and a stolen base. He was 4-for-5 with a double, triple, RBI, and four runs scored in a 13-10 win at local rival Bridgewater. After going 1-for-3 with a run scored in a 9-2 loss to Randolph-Macon in game one of their series, Tricarico went 3-for-5 with a walk in the nightcap. It was his walk-off single that game EMU a 5-4 victory over the nationally eighth-ranked Yellow Jackets. For the season, Tricarico is hitting .389 (21-for-54) with four doubles, a triple, a homer, 16 RBI, and 13 runs scored. He boasts a 1.032 OPS powered by a .476 OBP and a .556 SLG%.
  • Gerard DePhillips, Shenandoah, Jr. Closer
    April 08, 2019
    DePhillips, a junior from Florham Park, N.J., has turned himself into one of the top closers in NCAA Division III. He tacked on three more saves last week, tying him for the top spot in the country with eight. DePhillips was nearly perfect three save situations, helping SU to a 3-0 showing in those contests. He worked a perfect frame for his first save in an 11-9 win over York (Pa.). He fanned two Generals against a walk with a second scoreless and hitless frame for a save in an 8-6 victory at Washington and Lee. DePhillips recorded four outs in a perfect 1.1 innings for his final save of the week as he fanned three Hornets in a 3-2 win versus Lynchburg. For the season, DePhillips is 0-1 with eight saves in nine appearances. He as struck out 12 and owns a 2.77 ERA in 13.0 innings on the slab.
  • Holden Fiedler, Lynchburg, Fy., Catcher
    April 01, 2019
    Fiedler, a first-year catcher from Henrico, Va., slashed .611/.650/.889 last week to help lead Lynchburg to a 4-0 week that featured three conference victories. Fiedler opened with a 4-for-5 day in a 9-6 win at Virginia Wesleyan. He doubled, stole a base and scored two runs in the winning effort. He then doubled and drove in three runs as part of a 3-for-5 showing in a marathon-like 15-7 win over Averett. He also scored a run in that contest. Fielder went 4-for-8 in the week-capping sweep on the road at Emory & Henry (14-8, 12-5). He hammered his first collegiate homer, drover in two runs, and scored four times in game one, and scored and registered his sixth RBI of the week in game two. For the season, Fiedler is slashing .344/.429/.453 with four doubles, a homer, and 13 RBI.
  • Trenton Tiller, Hampden-Sydney, Fy., Pitcher
    April 01, 2019
    Tiller, a first-year from Powhatan, Va., picks up his first weekly award in what has been a strong opening campaign in the right-hander's career. Tiller improved to 4-0 on the season with an 8-1 complete-game victory at Washington and Lee on Saturday. Tiller scattered five hits in his second-straight nine-inning outing, giving up one run while walking one. He fanned four Generals to give him 35 on the season. He lowered his ODAC third-best ERA to 1.67 in 43.0 total innings on the hill. Against W&L, Tiller enjoyed several small streaks of batters set down in a row, highlighted by eight straight outs thru the early to middle innings.
  • Tyler Blevins, Hampden-Sydney, Sr., 1st Base
    March 25, 2019
    Blevins, a senior from Draper, Va., was an on-base machine as he reached in 10-of-13 plate appearances for a .714 on-base percentage in Hampden-Sydney's three victories. He slashed .667/.714/1.111 overall. Blevins opened by going 1-for-3 with a walk, RBI, and a run scored in an 11-6 victory at Lynchburg. He followed that with a 3-for-3 day in a 12-6 triumph over Eastern Mennonite in game one of a series sweep. He doubled and homered while driving in three runs, scoring three times, and drawing a walk. In game two, Blevins went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored towards a 6-1 victory. For the season, Blevins is slashing .328/.500/.586 with five doubles, two homers, 12 RBI and 17 runs scored. His .500 OBP is #1 in the conference and his 18 walks are tied with teammate Ryan Clawson for the ODAC lead.
  • Drew Calohan, Ferrum, Jr., Pitcher
    March 25, 2019
    Calohan, a junior from Rustburg, Va., was stellar on his way to a fourth win this season, second-most in the ODAC behind teammate Joey Pride (5). Calohan tossed 8.0 shutout innings on the way to a 7-0 victory at Emory & Henry. He gave up just four hits and issued one intentional walk while fanning four Wasps. He retired 10 of the last 11 batters he faced with a hit-by-pitch breaking up the streak. For the season, Calohan is 4-2 with a 3.34 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 32.1 innings of work. This was his first appearance against an ODAC team this year.
  • Garrett Jackson, Lynchburg, Fy., Infielder
    March 18, 2019
    Jackson, a first-year from Virginia Beach, Va., put together a strong week with five two-hit performances in six games played, helping Lynchburg to a 3-3 week. Jackson slashed .435/.440/.609 with two doubles, a triple, seven RBI, three runs scored, and a walk. He went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, a walk, and a run scored in a 9-2 win at Mary Washington. He followed up with two more hits and two RBI in a 10-9 setback to Lehigh. Jackson went 4-for-6 with two RBI in a pair of contests against Rutgers-Camden (L, 12-2; L, 7-2). He finished up his week going 2-for-8 with a triple, RBI, and two runs scored to help Lynchburg sweep Eastern Mennonite, 10-7 and 3-0. For the season, Jackson is hitting .344 (22-for-64) with three doubles, a triple, a homer, 13 RBI, and eight runs scored.
  • Hunter Campbell, Lynchburg, Jr., Pitcher
    March 18, 2019
    Campbell, a junior from Lynchburg, Va., picked up his first collegiate victory in stellar fashion as he twirled a one-hit gem in a 3-0 complete-game shutout of conference foe Eastern Mennonite. It also marked the first complete-game shutout for a Lynchburg pitcher since 2016. Campbell gave up a lead-off single and a walk to start the game, but then set down six straight before issuing a free pass in the third. Campbell set down 10 more batters in a row until an error with two down in the sixth snapped the run. He finished the game with another string of 10 straight outs to wrap up the Hornets second league win of the season. Campbell struck out two batters and registered 15 ground ball outs. The effort lowered his ERA to 2.57 in 28.0 innings of work this season.
  • Tim Ortega, Ferrum, Jr., Catcher
    March 11, 2019
    Ortega, a junior from Bluffton, S.C., put together a strong week in leading Ferrum to a trio of victories including a conference sweep of Eastern Mennonite. Ortega had two four-hit games and slashed .692/.643/1.385 in going 9-for-13 with a double, triple, two homers, six RBI, and seven runs scored. He opened by going 4-for-4 with a double, homer, and two RBI plus two runs scored in a 5-0 victory over Averett. Ortega was 4-for-5 with a triple, homer, two RBI and three runs scored in a 7-5 triumph in game one against EMU. He went 1-for-4 in a 14-8 win in game two, driving in two runs and scoring two more. For the season, Ortega is hitting .426 with four homers and 14 RBI.
  • Reeves Lowry, Shenandoah, Jr., Pitcher
    March 11, 2019
    Lowry, a junior from Mechanicsville, Va., twirled a gem to lead Shenandoah to a conference road victory at Emory & Henry on Sunday. Lowry started and worked eight shutout frames in pikcing up his first victory of the season via an 8-1 result. He surrendered just three hits and offset four walks with five strikeouts in a 111-pitch effort. Only once did a two runners reach base in an inning and only one runner advanced beyond second base. Lowry is 1-0 on the season with a 1.54 ERA in 11.2 innings of work.
  • Jaylon Lee, Eastern Mennonite, So., Outfielder
    March 04, 2019
    Lee, a sophomore from Newport News, Va., hit safely in all five games played last week in the Royals 2-2-1 week. He slashed .444/.583/1.056 with six of his eight hits going for extra bases. Lee went 3-for-7 with a double, triple, homer, four RBI, and five runs scored with two walks and a stolen base in a series split with PSU-Harrisburg. He was at his best in a 16-12 win over Southern Virginia as he went 3-for-4 with a double, homer, four RBI, and two runs scored. He finish his week going 2-for-7 with a walk in a split with Oneonta. He doubled and drove in three runs over those two outings. For the season, Lee is hitting .410 (16-of-39) with three homeruns, 15 RBI, and nine runs scored.
  • Andrew Lowe, Virginia Wesleyan, Jr., Pitcher
    March 04, 2019
    Lowe, a junior from Franklin, Va., made two appearances last week and helped the Marlins to a pair of victories. In a staff day during the midweek, Lowe worked 3.0 shutout without allowing a hit. He walked one and fanned two as Virginia Wesleyan defeated Mary Washington, 7-4. Lowe then got the start and earned a 2-1 victory over Rochester on the weekend. He gave up one run on five hits in 6.1 frames on the hill. He walked two and fanned four in picking up his first win of the season. 
  • Ty Walser, Guilford, Jr., Starting Pitcher
    February 25, 2019
    Walser, a junior from Rural Hall, N.C., picked up his first win of the young season as the Quakers defeated Elmira (N.Y.), 8-1, in a single-game outing on Tuesday. Walser started and worked the first 7.0 frames. He gave up one run on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts. The run he allowed came on a two-out infield single in the fifth inning. Walser is now 1-0 with a 1.72 ERA in 15.2 innings pitched covering three appearances.
  • Ryan Monson, Washington and Lee, Jr., Outfielder
    February 18, 2019
    Monson, a junior from Frisco, Texas., slashed .500/.533/.857 in the Generals 2-1 week. He collected seven total hits with two doubles and a homer to go with four runs scored and 10 runs driven in. Monson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and five RBI in an 8-6 win over Southern Virginia. He added a stolen base to his line. In game one of a doubleheader split at Pfeiffer, Monson went 2-for-5 with a homer and five RBI towards an 8-7 victory. It was his second career homer. He also went 2-for-5 with a walk in game two. He scored a run despite in the Generals' 15-13 loss. 
  • Brandon Pond, Lynchburg, Fr., Relief Pitcher
    February 18, 2019
    Pond, a freshman from Chesterfield, Va., made the most of his first collegiate outing as he came on in relief in the Hornets 2-0 victory at Maryville (Tenn.). Pond worked the final four innings without allowing a run or walking a batter. He surrendered four hits and fanned three batters to earn the win and help Lynchburg to its first shutout since March 5, 2016.
  • Chadwick Feeley, Washington and Lee, Sr., Shortstop
    February 11, 2019
    Feeley, a senior from Jacksonville, Fla., registered a trio of two-hit games and slashed .462.429.538 as Washington and Lee opened the season with a three-game sweep of Averett. Feeley went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, a RBI, and a stolen base in an 11-2 win in game one. He followed with a 2-for-4 showing with a RBI in a 7-3 win in game two. Feeley smacked a double and drove in three runs in a second 2-of-4 performance in game three, a 9-1 Generals' win. Feeley now has the fourth-most at bats (491) in school history and is tied for sixth in hits (166) in W&L lore.
  • Tom Kellogg, Washington and Lee, Jr., Pitcher
    February 11, 2019
    Kellogg, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, opened the new season with a strong start in a 9-1 victory over Averett. The Generals swept three games from the Cougars over the weekend. Kellogg worked the first five frames in the third game of the series, giving up two hits without a run. He walked one and struck out four. He needed just 64 pitches to complete his first outing.
