  • Emory & Henry's Boden Earns NCAA's Walt Byers Postgraduate Scholarship

    Kyle Boden, the standout quarterback for the Emory & Henry College football team, has been selected to receive one of the top scholar-athlete awards from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Boden, who graduated from Emory & Henry this past Saturday, has been awarded the prestigious Walter Byers Postgraduate Scholarship. The award is given annually to one male and one female who are selected from among the more than 1,100 member institutions across all three NCAA divisions.
  • Watch Lou Wacker's Induction Speech into the Va. Sports Hall of Fame

    Former Emory & Henry College football coach, Lou Wacker, was a part of the 2014 class that was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame on April 26 at the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel & Waterfront Conference Center. Coach Wacker spent 23 seasons guiding the Wasps' football team, and he racked up a conference-record 164 wins to go with 11 league titles, also an ODAC-best mark. He was an assistant coach at Hampden-Sydney College for 24 years before taking the reins at E&H.
  • ODAC Fall and Winter Sportsmanship Teams Announced

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2013-14 ODAC/StellarOne Sportsmanship Teams in each of the fall and winter sports sponsored by the conference. This marks the fifth year the league has recognized these fine student-athletes for their excellence in sportsmanship.
  • Guilford Captures ODAC Football Play of the Year

    The first ODAC Football Play of the Year contest featured all 11 winners from the regular season contests, and it was the first winner that came away as the ultimate victor. Guilford College, which secured three weekly victories over the course of the season, took top prize with a game-winning touchdown pass from Matt Pawlowski (pictured) to Hayden Read in its first triumph of a six-win campaign. That play was watched 845 times as part of nearly 21,000 YouTube views of all plays this season.
  • Former E&H Football Coach Wacker Inducted into Va. Sports Hall of Fame

    Former Emory & Henry College Head Football Coach Lou Wacker is one of seven members of the 2014 induction class of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum, VSHFM officials announced Thursday afternoon. Per tradition, the official introduction of the new inductees took place on the floor of the Senate at the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond.

The inaugural ODAC Football Play of the Week contest gave fans a chance to weigh in on some of the best gridiron moments of the season. Eleven times you came thru with a weekly winner, but now you get to do it one more time. All 11 winners are available to you again in the ODAC Football Play of the Year contest!   • Seven ODAC Players Earn Football All-America Recognition

    Seven players from ODAC football teams recently earned All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and D3football.com. Guilford College defensive back Satiir Stevenson and Washington and Lee University offensive lineman Connor Hollenbeck earned a pair of accolades from the two outlets.
  • Newsome Selected to Lead Emory & Henry Football Program

    The Emory & Henry College Department of Athletics and Director of Athletics Myra Sims are pleased to announce the hiring of Curt Newsome as Head Football Coach. A 1982 graduate of E&H, Newsome returns to his alma mater with 15 years of NCAA Division I coaching experience and becomes the program's 20th head coach. He replaces Don Montgomery, who stepped away from the Wasps' coaching post last month.

The conference has been the co-host for the D3 football championship for the past 21 years.   • ODAC and Select Schools Tabbed to Host NCAA Division III Championships

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference and two of its schools were selected to host or co-host 14 NCAA Division III championships over the next four years thru 2018. The conference will co-host 11 events, 10 of which will be in conjunction with the City of Salem. Guilford College is charged with men's golf in 2018, and Washington and Lee University was awarded two years as host of field hockey in 2014 and 2015. Salem will also host three Division II championships, of which the ODAC may assist.

    Hampden-Sydney quarterback Nash Nance (pictured) was named the South Region Offensive Player of the Year by D3football.com on Monday. Nance leads a list of 14 ODAC players that earned regional recognition, including eight who picked up first team accolades.
  • Tigers Upset Bid Falls Short in Loss to Second-Ranked Linfield

    Hampden-Sydney built up a 21-3 lead on nationally second-ranked Linfield College on Saturday afternoon, but the Tigers' bid for a cross-country win came up short as the Wildcats recovered to post a 31-21 victory in the second round of the NCAA Division III Football Tournament. Hampden-Sydney caps its season with a 9-3 overall record.
  • R-MC's McGhee, H-SC's Ikwild Highlight ODAC Football Awards

    Randolph-Macon running back Will McGhee and Hampden-Sydney linebacker Tyler Ikwild highlight the 2013 All-ODAC football awards, earning the J. Stokeley Fulton Offensive and Lou Wacker Defensive Player of the Year awards, respectively. H-SC mentor Marty Favret secured ODAC Coach of the Year honors, while Washington and Lee running back Marshall Hollerith earned ODAC Rookie of the Year recognition. Emory & Henry quarterback Kyle Boden was tabbed the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete for the second straight year by the league's sports information directors.
  • Montgomery Resigns as Emory & Henry Head Football Coach

    Emory & Henry College Head Football Coach Don Montgomery has resigned, citing personal reasons, Director of Athletic Myra Sims announced Monday. Montgomery served at the helm of the Wasps' program for the past nine years, compiling a 45-45 record.
  • Hampden-Sydney Tops Maryville in NCAA Football First Round

    Hampden-Sydney won its first NCAA Division III Football Tournament game in five tries on Saturday, defeating Maryville College (Tenn.), 42-34, in first round action. Holton Walker (pictured) helped power the effort with three touchdowns and 268 receiving yards, the third-most in ODAC history. H-SC faces Linfield College in round two next Saturday.

    The final week of the ODAC Football Play of the Week contest came down to the wire, as did a few of the games on the season's final Saturday. Hampden-Sydney College came away with the win, securing its fourth weekly win of the year.     Not only did it take until the final week of the regular season to determine the ODAC champion, but the result hung in the balance until the final minutes of the 119th edition of "The Game" before Hampden-Sydney secured the win over Randolph-Macon. Guilford capped its season with an improbable comeback win from 31 points down to Emory & Henry, and it took overtime for Shenandoah to seal its second ODAC season with a victory against Washington and Lee. Catholic wrapped up a winning campaign with a triumph at Bridgewater.
  • Tigers Win 119th Edition of "The Game" to Claim ODAC Title

    The Hampden-Sydney football team won its eighth ODAC title and fourth since 2007 after the Tigers defeated arch-rival Randolph-Macon, 28-26, in a thrilling edition of 'The Game.' With the win, the Tigers improve their advantage in the 120-year series to 61-47-11. H-SC enters the NCAA Tournament on the ODAC's automatic qualification.

Catholic University secured its first top billing in the play of the week contest from its 38-29 win over Guilford College on Saturday. Receiver Andrew Ouellette (pictured) was featured in the play.

    After four games in week 10, we're left with just four remaining in the 2013 season as crowning an ODAC champion draws near. Hampden-Sydney College and Randolph-Macon College sit tied at the top of the conference at 5-1 after posting victories in week nine, leaving their matchup next week in the "The Game" as the decider for the league title. Catholic University and Emory & Henry College also return to the win column, vaulting them back up over the .500-mark overall.

Hampden-Sydney College picked up its third win of the season, joining Guilford College as three-time winners. Zach Morgan (pictured) produced the action in the play with his 41-yard interception return for a touchdown.

    Week nine of the ODAC football season came and went with a flurry, leaving fans with a three-way tie atop the standings. Hampden-Sydney handed Guilford it's first loss of the league slate, while Randolph-Macon joined those two squads at 4-1 following its win over Shenandoah. Washington and Lee picked up its second straight win with a triumph over Catholic, and Bridgewater notched its first conference win at Emory & Henry.

Washington and Lee University's finalist squeezed out a narrow win over Guilford College's play to secure the Generals' second win of the season. W&L's Jeff Schulte (pictured) took an interception back 40-yards for a score in this week's winning play.

    Three teams came into Saturday's contests with undefeated ODAC records, but just one came out that way as Guilford College stands atop the conference table after its 28-21 win over Randolph-Macon College. Shenandoah University handed Hampden-Sydney College its first ODAC defeat with a 36-35 last-minute victory. Emory & Henry College outlasted Catholic University, 17-15, to notch its first league win of the year. Washington and Lee University returned to the winner's circle with a 42-13 decision over Bridgewater College.

Hampden-Sydney College and Randolph-Macon College own identical 4-1 overall and 2-0 ODAC records, while Guilford College also sits 2-0 in league play and 3-2 in all games. Washington and Lee University joined the Tigers, Quakers and Yellow Jackets in the winners' circle, moving to 1-1 in conference action and 3-2 overall.
