Guilford Captures ODAC Football Play of the Year

FOREST, Va. --- The first ODAC Football Play of the Year contest featured all 11 winners from the regular season contests, and it was the first winner that came away as the ultimate victor.  Guilford College, which secured three weekly victories over the course of the season, took top prize with a game-winning touchdown pass in its first triumph of a six-win campaign.

Guilford quarterback Matt Pawlowski found an uncovered Hayden Read down the sidelines for a 33-yard touchdown pass that gave Guilford the lead for good (31-28) in its Gate City Soup Bowl win over Greensboro College. The play capped a 2-play, 80-yard drive that took 16 seconds. Guilford started the drive with no timeouts at its own 20-yard line before Pawlowski and Read connected on identical plays for the win.

During the first weekly contest, this pass play received 45.74-percent of the votes from ODAC and NCAA Division III football fans.  That week featured eight finalists, with those plays garnering more than 4,600 total YouTube views.  Fast-forwarding to the Play of the Year contest, Pawlowski's winning strike to Read secured 47.98-percent of the tallies in the final survey.

The ODAC Football Play of the Week contest, a first for the ODAC in any sport, proved a popular venture with gridiron fans.  In total, the 49 plays featured in the 11 weekly polls were viewed nearly 21,000 times on YouTube over the course of the season thru today (1/22/14).
