Read the ODAC Football Report: Week 7
Three teams entered Saturday's quartet of contests undefeated,
and those squads finished the weekend with still
yet-to-be-blemished records in conference play. Guilford
College, Hampden-Sydney College and Randolph-Macon College all
boast 3-0 records thru the first three weeks of ODAC competition.
Catholic University also posted a win on Saturday, its first
league victory of the season.
Guilford opened up a 14-0 lead on the way to a 21-14 triumph over
Bridgewater College. Matt Pawlowski threw two touchdown
passes and Josh Schow made it a perfect six games played with 100
or more rushing yards to lead the Quakers' offense. Satiir
Stevenson led the defense with 11 stops, while JerMario Gooch
intercepted his third pass of season, moving him into first place
in the ODAC. Bridgewater got 122 yards rushing from Jacob
Wright to lead the offense, while Andrew Palmer led the defense
with 10 tackles.
Hampden-Sydney put together a balanced effort on offense and
forced three Emory & Henry turnovers in posting a 33-12 win on
the road. Quarterback Nash Nance threw for three touchdowns
and also ran one in from short yardage. Brady Macko and Chris
Shembo combined for 115 yards rushing, while Joey Druhan led the
receivers with four catches for 79 yards and a score. Shreve
Rohle led the defense with 10 tackles, while Michael Bazemore had a
pair of sacks. Charlie Shoemaker intercepted a pass.
Emory & Henry got 87 yards rushing from Joe Vaughn, and
the Wasps' touchdown came via a 1-yard run by Jonathan Turpin.
Kyle Boden was 20-of-37 for 196 yards passing.
Defensively, Randall Conley had eight tackles, while DeMikael
Burse intercepted a pass. He also blocked an extra point,
which Rennel Marshall returned 98 yards for a defensive two-point
conversion.
Randolph-Macon got four touchdowns and 189 yards rushing from Will
McGhee as the Yellow Jackets topped Washington and Lee University,
27-21. McGhee, the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week, notched
a score in each quarter, including the final touchdown of the game
to break a 21-21 tie with 3:26 to play. Zac Naccarato was
efficient thru the air, completing 14-of-18 passes for 146 yards.
Eric Long led the defense with 10 tackles, while Marcus
Mitchell recorded a sack and Abel Simpson forced and recovered a
fumble. Washington and Lee ran for 331 yards as a team, led
by a career-high 194 yards and touchdown by Nick Lombardo.
Luke Terna added 84 yards and a score. Defensively,
Jake Barr led the unit with a game-best 12 tackles. Mike
Palicz intercepted a pass.
Catholic scored early and often in topping Shenandoah, 37-7.
The Cardinals ran for 326 yards with two players eclipsing
the 100-yard mark. Mike Pitsenberger ran for 199 yards and
three touchdowns, while Nick Cortese had 138 yards on the groun.
TJ Tutone threw a pair of TD passes to Alex Evans.
Anthony Albenese, the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week, led
a Cardinals' defensive effort that held SU to 199 yards of total
offense. Albanese notched 11 stops with 3.5 coming behind the
line of scrimmage including a quarterback sack. Shenandoah's
offense was led by Andrew Smith, who rushed for 70 yards and a
touchdown. Four SU defenders notched double digits tackles,
including Byron Mitchell (15), Michael Wroble (13), Michael Messick
(12) and Sean Blackman (10). Blackman also intercepted a
pass.
