  • ODAC 40 Feature: Highlighting the Winners of the First Berkley and Jopson Awards

    In the eighth installment of ODAC 40 features, we highlight the conference's top awards in a pair of conversations with the first winners of the Marjorie Berkley and Harry G. "Doc" Jopson Awards. Former Eastern Mennonite University (then known as Eastern Mennonite College) volleyball star Becky (Derstine) Esch garnered the first Berkley Award in 1984, while former Washington and Lee University football and track & field standout Chip Nunley earned the inaugural Jopson Award in 1981.

  • Randolph-Macon Earns Three Special Honors in All-ODAC Football Awards

    Randolph-Macon College took home three special honors as part of the annual All-ODAC Football Awards, as selected the league's head coaches. Running back Tre Frederick was tabbed the J. Stokeley Fulton Offensive Player of the Year, while defensive lineman Cole Burdette was named the Lou Wacker Defensive Player of the Year. Yellow Jackets' mentor Pedro Arruza received ODAC Coach of the Year laurels. Guilford College wide receiver Tyriek Russell picked up ODAC Rookie of the Year plaudits, while Washington and Lee University linebacker Max Garrett was chosen the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete.
  • Randolph-Macon Falls to Johns Hopkins in NCAA Football First Round

    Sophomore Eric Hoy (Clayton, N.C./Clayton) scored a pair of rushing touchdowns as the Randolph-Macon football team dropped a 42-21 decision at sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins Saturday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Yellow Jackets finish the season with a 9-2 mark, matching the program record for victories in a season.
  • Bridgewater Wins Final ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll

    The final ODAC Football Play of the Week fan poll took several turns before voting closed today at noon. Following a late push from voters, Bridgewater College picked up its second win of the season behind the crafy running of Josh Cretaro.
  • ODAC Football Report: Week 11 - Randolph-Macon Heads to Hopkins for NCAA First Round

    Randolph-Macon put the caps on its strong season in week 11, avoiding a possible tie with two other squads for first place by defeating Hampden-Sydney in the 121st edition of "The Game" and securing the ODAC title outright. Emory & Henry and Washington and Lee both finished at 5-2 in the league, one game back of 6-1 R-MC. E&H topped Guilford, while W&L trumped Shenandoah. Bridgewater also finished the season with a win, defeating Catholic in Washington, D.C.
  • Randolph-Macon Hoists Two Trophies in Title-Clinching Win Over Tigers

    The Randolph-Macon football team outscored Hampden-Sydney 24-0 in the second half to post a 48-23 victory Saturday afternoon at Fulton Field to win the ODAC title and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Emory & Henry Wins ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll

    For the first time since weeks one and two, Emory & Henry College returns to the winners' circle in the ODAC Football Play of the Week fan poll. The Wasps' 100-yard interception return for a touchdown by Tre'von Lightfoot bested four other highlights in a tight race.

    With one week left in the regular season, Randolph-Macon remains in the driver's seat for the ODAC title as the Yellow Jackets sit alone at the top with 9-1 and 5-1 records after topping Guilford this weekend. Washington and Lee and Shenandoah both suffered losses to Bridgewater and Hampden-Sydney, respectively, putting them a game behind a tied scenario. Emory & Henry's win over Catholic has the Wasps in the mix as well with several versions of a stalemate possible, but certainly nothing decided.

    There is a new logjam atop the ODAC standings following this weekend's conference games with Randolph-Macon sitting in the driver's seat. The Yellow Jackets' win over Washington and Lee puts R-MC in a three-way tie with W&L and Shenandoah, which defeated Catholic this weekend. R-MC has earned wins over both SU and W&L this season, giving them a head's up on tiebreakers. Emory & Henry continued its winning ways with a triumph over Hampden-Sydney, while Bridgewater used a big comeback to earn a victory at Guilford.
  • Generals Earn Third ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll Win

    Voters continue to turn out in the ODAC Football Play of the Week fan poll and for three weeks this season, those donning Generals colors have reigned. Washington and Lee University picked up its third win of the season behind the pick-six from Patrick Ryan.

    Three of the four teams that won last week picked up victories in week eight. That includes Washington and Lee, which remained undefeated in ODAC play with its home win over Hampden-Sydney. Shenandoah topped visiting Guilford for its third straight victory, while Emory & Henry made it two in a row on the road at Bridgewater. Randolph-Macon returned to the victory column to celebrate Homecoming against Catholic.

    In the second edition of the ODAC Top-40 features, we head back to the mid-1990's and zero in on Emory, Va., to talk a little football with legendary head coach Lou Wacker. The namesake of the ODAC's defensive player of the year award spent 23 seasons guiding Emory & Henry. Included in his tenure was a 37-game home winning streak from the end of 1991 to the end of 1998.
  • Generals Pick Up Second ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll Win

    Washington and Lee University's explosive 498 yards rushing against Guilford College didn't require further validation afte being etched into the ODAC record books as the fifth-best performance all-time, but it got it with the Generals claiming their second ODAC Football Player of the Week fan poll win of the season. Charlie Nelson's 75-yard touchdown burst out-paced three other nominees in this week's feature.

    Two logjams dot the ODAC standings following seven overall weeks and three weekends of league play, with Washington and Lee standing alone at the top with a 3-0 ODAC mark following its 48-34 triumph over Guilford. Emory & Henry handed Randolph-Macon its first loss of the season with a 27-20 result, while Hampden-Sydney made it two straight with a 33-28 triumph at Catholic. Shenandoah also added its second victory in as many weeks via a 34-10 score at Bridgewater.

    Hampden-Sydney's victory over Guilford featured a swampy, muddy playing field. Now it also includes the winning play in the ODAC Play of the Week fan poll with Mike DeMasi's run to setup a score in the Tigers' first win of the season claiming H-SC's first triumph in the poll this year.

    And then there was one. After four games in rainy -- and some instances muddy -- conditions, Randolph-Macon stands as the only undefeated team remaining in the ODAC after its 21-0 victory over Bridgewater. Hampden-Sydney picked up its first win of the season over 25th-ranked Guilford, while Shenandoah topped Emory & Henry in a nail-biter in Emory. Washington and Lee remains tied with R-MC at the top of the ODAC standings with a 2-0 record in league play following its 23-22 last-minute win at Catholic.

    The ODAC Football Play of the Week fan poll returned this week with five outstanding plays for fans to enjoy. Week five of the poll saw Bridgewater College pick up its first win of the season behind a 72-yard interception return for a touchdown by Isaac Evans (pictured about to cross the goal line) in the Eagles 45-35 victory over Hampden-Sydney.

    All eight ODAC squads returned to action after a week in which each team enjoyed its scheduled bye. The weekend ended with one fewer undefeated teams than it started, with Guilford and Randolph-Macon both remaining unblemished after wins over Catholic (59-0) and Shenandoah (24-19), respectively. Bridgewater moved to 2-2 with a 45-35 win over Hampden-Sydney, and Washington and Lee did the same with a 49-23 triumph over Emory & Henry.

    Week three of the ODAC Football Play of the Week fan poll brought about a new winner following a pair of victories by Emory & Henry College to start the season. Washington and Lee University earned its first triumph thanks to a tough catch by tight end Jack Taylor.

    All eight ODAC squads completed the non-conference portions of the schedules on Saturday, but just three came away with victories heading into next week's set of byes. All three squads remain undefeated on the season. Catholic University and Guilford College used late scores to help them move to 3-0, while Randolph-Macon College jumped out to a double-digit lead on the way to its third victory in as many games.

    It didn't take long for the ODAC Football Play of the Week fan poll to result in the first back-to-back win of the season. Emory & Henry College picked up its second straight victory from ODAC football fans as Kendrick Kube's long touchdown sprint topped nominees from each of the seven other conference football schools.

    Week two saw ODAC teams pick up six more victories, leaving four squads undefeated with 2-0 records. Catholic, Guilford, Randolph-Macon, and Shenandoah all won for the second straight week, defeating Rochester (N.Y.), Methodist, Averett, and Ferrum, respectively. Emory & Henry and Washington and Lee evened their season marks at 1-1 with triumphs over Brevard and Sewanee.

    The 2016-17 season kicked off with ODAC teams picking up five victories over eight games played. Guilford and Randolph-Macon both registered shutous, while Catholic came up with an overtime victory. Bridgewater built a 31-0 lead on the way to its victory over Gettysburg, and Shenandoah thoroughly handled Gallaudet to joining the conference quintet at 1-0 thru week one.
  • Washington and Lee Tops ODAC Football Preseason Poll

    Defending ODAC champion Washington and Lee University opens the 2016 campaign as the favorite to repeat as the league's coaches voted the Generals to the top of the ODAC Football Preseason Poll. W&L picked up six first place votes on the way to 48 points. Hampden-Sydney College and Guilford College split the remaining two top nods with the Tigers collecting 41 tallies and the Quakers earning 35 points to round out the top three.
