  • Hall of Fame Football Coach Lou Wacker Passes Away at 84
    February 15, 2019
    Louis "Lou" Wacker, an Emory & Henry College Hall of Famer who won nearly 70 percent of his games as head football coach of the Wasps, has died at age 84. The Richmond, Va. native spent 23 seasons as the Wasps head coach, and previously spent 20-plus years on the coaching staff at Hampden-Sydney College. Wacker died of heart failure on Friday, February 15, his family said.
  • Trio Represent ODAC Schools as Academic All-Americans

    Ferrum College running back Brian Mann, University of Lynchburg goalkeeper Delia LoSapio, and Randolph-Macon College midfielder Maddie Burns headline the ODAC's contingent of academic student-athlete honors from CoSIDA as the trio were tabbed Google Cloud Academic All-Americans from the fall seasons.
  • SU's Bauserman Named Finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy

    Shenandoah University quarterback Hayden Bauserman earned a special distinction on Thursday evening as the Hornets senior signal-caller was named a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, which is largely considered an award to recognize the Division III player of the year. Bauserman is the third ODAC student-athlete to earn a spot among the final four, joining for Guilford College quarterback Matt Pawlowski in 2015 and former Washington and Lee University running back/kicker Luke Heinsohn in 2012.
  • Randolph-Macon Falls to Muhlenberg in NCAA Second Round

    Junior Anthony Williams (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove) recorded another pair of interceptions and junior Calvin Whitehead (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) had nine tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, as the Randolph-Macon football team dropped a 35-6 decision at No. 23 Muhlenberg Saturday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Championship.
  • Shenandoah's Bauserman, Bridgewater's Myers Lead All-ODAC Football Awards

    Shenandoah quarterback Hayden Bauserman and Bridgewater linebacker Re'Shaun Myers took home ODAC Player of the Year awards while Randolph-Macon and Bridgewater combined for 28 all-conference honorees to lead the 2018 All-ODAC Football Awards.
  • Randolph-Macon Earns First NCAA Division III Tournament Win at John Carroll

    Randolph-Macon College made good on its fourth appearance in the NCAA Division III Football Tournament as the Yellow Jackets earned the program's first win on the D-III national stage via a 23-20 result at John Carroll University on Saturday afternoon.

    The final ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll wins goes to a different school for the first time in five weeks as Major Morgan's one-handed touchdown grab earned the majority vote and the second poll victory of the season for Hampden-Sydney College.

    The final ODAC table is an odd view of separation and logjams with two large ties amongst the eight league teams. Randolph-Macon separated itself at the top with a win over Hampden-Sydney. The Yellow Jackets are now tied with an ODAC record 11 football championships and earn the ODAC's bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

    Sophomore Jordan Hall ran for 99 yards and four touchdowns to help lead Randolph-Macon to a 48-35 victory at Hampden-Sydney to earn the ODAC football title and the league's automatic entry to the NCAA Division III Football Tournament.

    Things have changed at the top of the ODAC standings following week 10's results, leaving the title in a winner-take-all situation heading the final week of the regular season. Randolph-Macon remains in the driver's seat at 5-1, but Ferrum's win in Ashland on Saturday combined with Hampden-Sydney's victory at Washington and Lee sets up a showdown at H-SC next week when R-MC comes to town for "The Game." Shenandoah and Bridgewater had strong offensive days with BC adding a good defensive effort in its win over Emory & Henry. Meanwhile, Shenandoah was forced to keep scoring and hold on with Guilford nearly clawing back from a large deficit.

Randolph-Macon now has a two-game cushion following its win over Emory & Henry plus Guilford's win over Washington and Lee and Ferrum's triumph over Hampden-Sydney. Bridgewater also returned to the win column with a victory over Shenandoah
  • Eagles Claim Third Straight ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll

    Bridgewater continues to put up big plays from week-to-week and fans keep responding as the Eagles picked up their third straight win and fourth overall on tackle-breaking catch-and-run by Demetreus Jalepes against Randolph-Macon College. Bridgewater got several big plays from its offense in its 44-41 overtime setback to Randolph-Macon, and none induced more excitement that Jalepes’ 38-yard screen pass touchdown to help the Eagles come all the way back from a 17-0 deficit. Jalepes grabbed the floated pass from Jay Scroggins and jumped thru one tackle attempt before running over a second person trying to make the stop. He eluded two more tacklers before diving over the goal line to knot the score at 17-all with 4:17 on the third quarter clock.

    Has there ever been a more competitive week for ODAC football than this past weekend? The eighth week of competition saw four games with a combined margin of victory of 11 points. Still, little changed at the top of the ODAC standings with Randolph-Macon, Hampden-Sydney, and Washington and Lee each posting wins. Emory & Henry completed the victorious quartet.

    There's something "special" about this week's ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll winner. For the second time this season, Bridgewater College landed the majority of the vote thanks to its version of the "Philly Special" in ints contest versus Washington and Lee on Saturday.

    Seven of the ODAC's eight football playing members were in action on Saturday with Ferrum the lone non-participant due to its scheduled bye week. Six squads participated in league contests leaving just one team unbeaten in the conference standings, while Emory & Henry closed out its non-conference slate.
  • Hampden-Sydney Wins ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll

    Week five brought about the closest race of the season in the ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll voting. Hampden-Sydney and Bridgewater came down to the final few minutes with the Tigers securing their first win of the season by just a few tallies. Hampden-Sydney got a big passing day from quarterback Alec Cobb – 519 yards and five touchdowns thru air – but it was an unexpected thrower that provided this highlight. Running back Kaleb Smith, who was a run-pass option quarterback in high school, took the shotgun snap and faked a quick inside-handoff before lofting a pass out in front of Blake Page. The Tigers’ receiver reached out with one hand and hauled in the 30-yard pass with a defender draped all over him. Smith, meanwhile, scored on a five-yard shuffle pass on the ensuing play. Hampden-Sydney went on to win, 56-27.

    All eight teams were involved in conference play this weekend, some taking the field for the first time in three weeks due to a combination of bye dates and weather-affected schedules. Bridgewater, Hampden-Sydney, and Randolph-Macon each sit 1-0 in the ODAC standings following wins in their first league games.

    Four week and four new winners in the ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll. The 81-0 victory over Greensboro College not only resulted in numerous school-records for Ferrum College, but it also features this week's fan poll winner in the 60-yard catch-and-run score from Zack Clifford to Nick Pearce.

    Just two games were active on the ODAC schedule for week four with several squads idle on their scheduled bye weeks and still others with an unexpected break due to the effects from Hurricane Florence. Still, the two games ODAC fans did get to watch did not disappoint as Ferrum and Emory & Henry combined to scored 133 points in their non-conference victories.
  • Shenandoah Earns Week 3 ODAC Football Top Play Fan Poll Win

    For the third straight week, we have a new winner in the ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll. Shenandoah University picks up the mantle in week three following a back-of-the-end-zone touchdown pass play from Hayden Bauserman to Austin Ward. Shenandoah and Hobart played hot-potato with the score all game long with five lead changes dotting the play-by-play. With 0:24 to go in the third quarter, the Hornets took a 48-42 lead thanks to some elusiveness and clutch catching. Bauserman, the Hornets' quarterback, avoided the rush a couple times and bought some time for Ward to come open near the back of the end zone. SU’s tight end kept his feet in bounds in the back-corner for his first collegiate touchdown and only grab of the game. Bauserman finished 46-of-64 for 471 and six TDs in the 56-48 setback.

    Hurricane Florence forced ODAC schedules to shift throughout all sponsored sports, leaving football with just three games played. Guilford, Randolph-Macon, and Shenandoah played their games, while others saw theirs canceled or pushed backed to dates later in the season.

    Week two of the ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll feature a quartet of gamebreaking plays. Football fans spoke loud and clear as Guilford College took home the victory by a resounding margin on the heels of a 60-yard catch and sprint to the end zone in the Quakers' 61-35 win over Methodist.

    The offense was in full gear for ODAC teams in week two as six of the seven squads in action scored 23 points or more with Guilford eclipsing 60 points to lead the way. Conference teams went 5-2 in non-league play, leaving four teams unbeaten thru the first two weeks.

    The first week of the ODAC Football Play of the Week Fan Poll returned with a strong competition among the four nominees. Bridgewater College proved the winner in the end, with Demetreus Jalepes' run narrowly eclipsing Nate Hill's interception return for Shenandoah University.

    Weather didn't treat the opening of the 2018 Division III collegiate football season too kindly with three ODAC games directly impacted by adverse conditions. Conference teams went 3-2 in non-conference play and saw the first league contest competed at new member school Ferrum College.
  • Washington and Lee, Randolph-Macon Tied Atop ODAC Football Poll

    Predicting the outcome of any ODAC football season is a difficult task, but doing so for the 2018 campaign may be one of the most daunting in recent memory for even the conference's head coaches. The annual preseason poll features two ties including for the top spot, two additional teams separated by just one point, and first place votes split amongst four squads. Washington and Lee University and Randolph-Macon College, the two most recent NCAA tournament teams from the ODAC ranks (in 2017 and 2016, respectively) sit tied atop the yearly coach's survey with 44 total points. The defending champion Generals secured four first place votes, while the Yellow Jackets picked up a pair. Hampden-Sydney College stands alone in third with 37 tallies and one top nod, while ODAC newcomer Ferrum College and Shenandoah University are locked for fourth with 26 markers. The Panthers earned the remaining first place vote as they join the league table as the eighth football-playing member.

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2017-18 ODAC Sportsmanship Teams in each of the conference's 24 sponsored sports. The squads are comprised of a student-athlete selected by the coaching staffs of each team competing under the conference banner with all sports and schools fully represented.
