  • Four ODAC Players Earn AFCA and D3football.com All-American Honors

    The 2021 football season is in the books with the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl crowning another champion this past weekend. The two major outlets covering Division III football have weighed in with their final awards. Four standouts from ODAC schools earned All-American honors from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and/or D3football.com. Three players earned high honors from the AFCA. Randolph-Macon College offensive lineman Will Jackson was tabbed a First Team All-American along with Shenandoah University linebacker Ben Burgan. Yellow Jackets kicker Chris Vidal was named to the All-America Second Team. D3football.com honored four teams of All-Americans. Vidal again was recognized, this time as the fourth team kicker. Bridgewater College punter Garrett Graves was also named to the fourth team.
  • ODAC Announces 2021-22 All-ODAC Football Awards

    For the second straight season, Randolph-Macon College standouts commanded the most attention on the All-ODAC Football Awards lists with 16 all-conference honors in addition to three special individual accolades. Defensive tackle Jace DePriest and running back Justin DeLeon headline the Yellow Jackets contingent. DePriest collected Lou Wacker Defensive Player of the Year laurels from the league's head coaches in addition to securing ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition from the ODAC's athletic communications personnel. DeLeon garnered J. Stokeley Fulton Offensive Player of the Year plaudits. Washington and Lee University mentor Garrett LeRose received ODAC Coach of the Year honors, and Shenandoah University quarterback Steven Hugney was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year.
  • W&L Football Ends Season with Loss at Mount Union

    The fourth-ranked Mount Union football team opened up a 21-0 first quarter lead and cruised to a 52-0 victory over Washington and Lee in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs on Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.
  • Washington and Lee Enters NCAA Football Tournament Bracket

    The NCAA football tournament is back! Fans would have to turn back the clock to November 2019 for the last time an ODAC team had the chance to play for a national football championship. The NCAA put an end to the event's hiatus with the announcement of the 2021 Division III field on Sunday evening. Washington and Lee University will be the ODAC's lone representative in the 32-team field. The Generals earned their position via automatic qualification after clinching their eighth ODAC title.

    Week 11 marks the end of the regular season. We know Washington and Lee is in the NCAA's 32-team field following last week's clinching victory over Ferrum. Tune in tonight at 5:30 p.m. ET on www.ncaa.com to see the selection show and learn about the rest of the field and see the full bracket. All seven ODAC teams were in action on Saturday. Shenandoah gave Washington and Lee its first ODAC loss of the season and Randolph-Macon topped Hampden-Sydney in the 126th edition of "The Game." Those two results created a tie atop the league standings. The Generals maintain the ODAC title and NCAA Tournament automatic bid -- which they clinched with last week's win over Ferrum -- thanks to their head-to-head win over the Yellow Jackets earlier this season. Bridgewater finished on a high note with a win over Guilford, and Ferrum dropped the fifth annual Crooked Road Classic at Emory & Henry. This week's ODAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week are Randolph-Macon quarterback Brecht Heuchan and Shenandoah defensive back Trammell Anthony.

    Week 10 featured a trophy presentation on Saturday as Washington and Lee clinched the ODAC title with one more set of conference games still to be played. The Generals own head-to-head tiebreakers against both Hampden-Sydney and Randolph-Macon should the Generals lose on November 13. Washington and Lee's win over Ferrum not only resulted in the program's eighth league crown, but it also earned the Generals the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The 32-team bracket will be revealed on the evening of Sunday, November 14, via selection show on www.ncaa.com. Hampden-Sydney defeated Bridgewater marking the Tigers third straight win. That sets up a strong matchup for next week's 126th playing of "The Game" against Randolph-Macon in Ashland. Shenandoah returned to the win column with a triumph over Apprentice School. Guilford dropped a non-conference contest against former ODAC member Emory & Henry. R-MC was idle this week on its scheduled bye date. This week's ODAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week both don Shenandoah colors in wide receiver Brant Butler and defensive back David Agyei.
  • Generals Clinch ODAC Football Title and NCAA Tournament Berth

    Washington and Lee University posted a 28-24 victory over Ferrum College on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, clinching the 2021 ODAC football championship and the league's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Football Tournament.

    Week nine during the Division III season always has a bit more emphasis as it is the last set of games before the NCAA regional rankings are published for the first time. The six ODAC teams in action competed in a pair of league games and earned victories in two non-conference games. Standings leader Washington and Lee earned one of those non-league wins with a last-second victory at former ODAC member Emory & Henry. Randolph-Macon added to its NCAA profile with a win over Shenandoah. Hampden-Sydney churned out a non-conference win at Apprentice School, and Ferrum out-gunned Guilford for its sixth victory of the season. Bridgewater was idle on its scheduled bye date. This week's ODAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week are Ferrum quarterback Titus Jones and Hampden-Sydney linebacker Brendan Weinberg.

    Six of the ODAC's teams were active in week eight of the football season. Washington and Lee maintains its position at the top of the league standings by winning for the sixth straight time and improving to 4-0 in league play with a shutout of Bridgewater. Randolph-Macon posted its fourth consecutive via a non-conference triumph over Apprentice School. R-MC is joined at 3-1 in ODAC play by Hampden-Sydney, which won a shootout with Ferrum to snap a two-game skid. Shenandoah made a field goal as time expired to a complete a comeback in a low-scoring victory over Emory & Henry in non-conference action. Guilford was idle on its scheduled bye date. This week's ODAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week are Hampden-Sydney running back Kaleb Smith and Shenandoah linebacker Ben Burgan.

    Two league games and a pair of non-conference contests dotted week seven of ODAC football. Randolph-Macon improved to 3-1 in conference play, just a half-game back of idle Washington and Lee after shutting out Guilford on the road. Ferrum kicked a field goal with 0:03 on the clock to earn a comeback victory over Shenandoah. Bridgewater snapped a four-game skid with a non-conference win over Apprentice School, while former ODAC member Emory & Henry defeated Hampden-Sydney in the remaining contest on the weekend. This week's ODAC Offensive and Defense Players of the Week are both from Ferrum -- linebacker Billy Higgins and receiver Tmahdae Penn.

    A logjam is forming at the top of the ODAC standings as league football teams advanced through the sixth week of the season. Washington and Lee remained 3-0 in the conference table and improved to 5-1 overall with a non-conference win over The Apprentice School. Randolph-Macon is one of three squads at 2-1 in ODAC play following a late comeback victory over former league foe Emory & Henry to move to 5-1 overall. Shenandoah improved to 2-1 in conference games and 4-1 in all contests with a win over Guilford. Ferrum evened its ODAC record at 1-1 and improved to 4-1 overall with a late come-from-behind road triumph at Bridgewater. Hampden-Sydney remained 2-1 in conference play as the Tigers were idle on their scheduled bye. This week's ODAC Offensive and Defense Players of the Week are Shenandoah quarterback Steven Hugney and Randolph-Macon defensive tackle Jace DePriest.

    Points were abundant on Saturday in week five of ODAC football as all three contests featured greater than 60 combined points scored. Washington and Lee moved to 3-1 overall and stayed perfect in conference play (3-0) with a 32-30 nail-biting victory over Hampden-Sydney. Randolph-Macon returned to the win column with a 44-21 triumph at Ferrum. Shenandoah pulled off the biggest comeback in program history on the way to a 34-27 homecoming win over Bridgewater. This week's ODAC Offensive and Defense Players of the Week are Shenandoah receiver Brant Butler and Washington and Lee linebacker David Onyejekwe.

    Late-game heroics featured in more than one game in week four with six of the ODAC's seven squads in action. Washington and Lee used an 99-yard game-ending drive to defeat #16 Randolph-Macon, while Hampden-Sydney completed its own comeback over Guilford to join W&L at 2-0 atop the ODAC standings. Ferrum built a big lead and got a little more help in the second half to hold on for a win over Apprentice School. Bridgewater fell to former ODAC foe Emory & Henry.

    ODAC play kicked off in week three for six of the conference's schools with all squads in action on Saturday. Randolph-Macon improved to 3-0 with a win in its league opener, while Washington and Lee and Hampden-Sydney also posted ODAC victories. Ferrum was the lone team featuring in a non-conference game with the Panthers coming away with a road victory. This week's ODAC Offensive and Defense Players of the Week are Ferrum quarterback Titus Jones and Randolph-Macon linebacker Dominic Gray.

    Five of the six teams eligible to be active on the second Saturday of the season took the to gridiron in five non-conference contests. ODAC teams went 4-1 overall with Bridgewater, Randolph-Macon, and Shenandoah moving to 2-0 and Washington and Lee leveling its mark at 1-1 with a victory in the Generals first home game in 672 days. This week's ODAC Offensive and Defense Players of the Week are Randolph-Macon running back Justin DeLeon and Bridgewater cornerback Chase Rosenthal.

    Football is back! ODAC teams went 5-2 in the first fall week since November 2019 with all five victories coming against non-conference opponents. Bridgewater, Ferrum, Guilford, Randolph-Macon, and Shenandoah each open the 2021 season with 1-0 records as all conference teams scored at least 21 points in a return to the gridiron. This week's ODAC Offensive and Defense Players of the Week are Shenandoah receiver Ethan Bigbee and Bridgewater defensive lineman Da'Sean Davis.

Conference student-athlete distinction and influence extends well beyond their athletic arenas with several taking home Academic All-America recognition from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
