Lynchburg's Lerro, Brown Named NFHCA All-Americans

GILBERT, Ariz. --- Two ODAC stars were recognized as All-Americans by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Wednesday. University of Lynchburg forward Jackie Lerro earned Longstreth/NFHCA Division III Second Team All-America laurels, while teammate and midfielder/defender Alexis Brown was tabbed a Third Team All-American.

A total of 48 student-athletes in NCAA Division III field hockey received All-America recognition this year. That list included 37 first-time honorees, eight two-time award winners, and a trio of third-time standouts.

In addition to the All-American awards earned by Lerro and Brown, five ODAC student-athletes joined them as All-South Region honorees. Shenandoah University midfielder Kelsey Jones is one of three from SU on this list as she joined Lerro and Brown on the first team. Midfielder Taylor Hayes and goalkeeper Isabella Morande capped Shenandoah's contingent as second team choices. Also appearing on the second team were Randolph-Macon College forward Maria Teresa Ambrogi-Torres and Roanoke College forward/midfielder Emilee Wooten.

Lerro, a junior from Royersford, Pa., enjoys her first All-America nod after earning ODAC Offensive Player of the Year accolades from the league's head coaches. Her all-region honor is the third such distinction in her career. Lerro, who previous garnered national attention as the NFHCA Player of the Week following a seven-goal outburst in the week ending on September 30, finished the season #1 in the ODAC in goals scored (21) and points recorded (55). She was tied for second in assists (13) in Roanoke's Wooten. Lerro registered at least one point in 14-of-21 games played, twice establishing a new career high with nine points each in wins at Stevenson (6-1) and over Virginia Wesleyan (7-1). Five times she posted more than five points in a game.

Brown, a junior from Culpeper, Va., adds these two NFHCA honors to a second straight nod to the All-ODAC First Team. Brown was the link the link between Lynchburg's offense and defense, helping transition the Hornets between its nationally-ranked top-20 defense in goals-against average (xxx) and scoring margin to a potent offense that led the ODAC with 74 goals scored. Brown registered 19 points on the season with seven goals and five assists.
