Leonard, a junior from Yorktown, Va., earns her fourth weekly award of the 2011 season after notching five goals in a pair of victories for the Hornets this past week. Leonard opened the week with four goals in a 10-0 victory over ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan. She followed that up with a tally in a 4-0 win against York College (Pa.). Leonard leads the #4 Hornets and the ODAC in points (44), goals scored (19) and shots taken (120). Entering last week's games, Lynchburg was tops in the country in goals scored per game (5.3) and scoring margin (4.6). Leonard was tied for seventh in points per game (3.4) and 11th in goals per game (1.4).
Field Hockey Honor Roll
Nicole Bencsik, Eastern Mennonite, Sophomore, Attack
Bencsik scored four times this week as the Lady
Royals went 2-1, all in ODAC play. In Tuesday’s 3-1 win
over Shenandoah, Bencsik tied the game shortly after halftime then
provided the eventual game-winner two minutes later in 3-1 win over
Shenandoah. She scored EMU’s only goal in the closing
minute of their loss at Randolph-Macon on Thursday, then added
another unassisted goal in Saturday’s 8-0 shutout of Sweet
Briar. Bencsik now has nine goals on the season and took over
second place in the ODAC for goals. She is tied for second
with 20 points and is the only non-Lynchburg player in the top five
of either category. She is also tied for first with three
game-winning goals.
Lauren Seal, Randolph-Macon, Sophomore,
Attack
Seal led Randolph-Macon to two big ODAC conference
victories this week. She notched the Yellow Jackets' first
goal in a 2-1 victory over EMU with a goal 12 minutes into the
second stanza on Wednesday. On Saturday, Seal scored the
eventual game-winner in a 4-1 win at Shenandoah, finishing with
four shots on the game.
