Saluting the Class of 2020 | Men's Golf

FOREST, Va. --- This an unprecendented time in the world of collegiate athletics, with spring sports and championships canceled due to the landscape surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. The stoppage of competition, while affecting all student-athletes, was especially painful for the senior class of 2020 with an abrupt end to their careers. In a new series of features, the ODAC would like to honor this class of athletes and celebrate them for their years of contributions to their respective programs at each of the conference's 15 member schools.

In this installment of our "Saluting the Class of 2020" features, the ODAC showcases the seniors from our men's golf programs.

Men's golf has traditionally been a strong national-caliber sport with Guilford College claiming national titles in 2002 and 2005 plus three individual champions since 2005. But the collective success of the league was turned up a notch thanks in large part to this senior class.

Guilford has placed second, fifth, and third, respectively, in the past three NCAA tournaments with Washington and Lee University posting 14th and second place finishes in 2017 and 2018 before missing the cut by two strokes in 2019. Hampden-Sydney College made its first appearance in the national field in 25 years on the way to posting a 12th-place score in 2019.

Seniors on those squads were nothing short of impressive led by W&L's Brian Peccie. The 2018 ODAC Golfer of the Year tied for 42nd in 2017 and tied for 28th in 2019, the latter as an individual after the team missed the cut. Peccie drew headlines in 2018 as he tied atop the leaderboard at 3-under par and then defeated Logan Young from Concordia University (Texas) on the third playoff hole to earn individual medalist honors.

W&L's Robert Quinilty also competed in all three events, tying for 68th in 2017 and 54th in 2018. Fellow Generals' seniors Boyd Peete and Sean Puleo competed in 2018 and 2019. Peete tied for 18th in 2018, while Puleo tied for 47th (with teammate Luke Farley) in the same event.

Guilford seniors Zach Evens and Kell Graham were a part of the 2017 and 2018 Quaker squads. Evens tied for 30th in 2017 and 37th in 2018, while Graham flipped the script by tying for 24th in 2017 and 44th in 2018.

Hampden-Sydney seniors Adam Hade and Bruce Shober were members of last season's NCAA participating squad. Both tied for 61st overall.

The 2019-20 campaign appeared to be another banner season in the making. In the final player rankings published by Golfstat.com, six of the ODAC's seniors were ranked inside its published top-150. Peccie led in 17th position, while Ferrum College's Lance Keiser and Hade slotted 51st and 57th, respectively. Evens chimed in 62nd, while Shober ranked 88th. Quinilty capped the senior list in 112th position.

When it comes to awards, the list is numerous for this year's seniors. They combined for 14 All-ODAC honors with Peccie leading the way as a three-time All-ODAC First Team choice in addition to ODAC and Division III POY honors in 2018 and the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award in 2019. Quinilty was a first team choice in 2017 and 2019, while Evens picked up first team laurels in 2017 and 2018. Quinilty was also ODAC Rookie of the Year in 2017. Puleo was a first teamer in 2018 and a third team selection in 2019, while Shober added a 2019 first team nod to his 2017 third team assignment. Hade was a second team pick in 2019, while Graham earned third team honors last year. Keiser made good on Ferrum's first season in the ODAC with a second team selection in 2019.
