MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Harry Hodgert | Lynchburg | So.
Hodgert, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Va., put together a record-breaking performance at the VSGA Intercollegiate hosted by Roanoke College in Blacksburg, Va. Hodgert posted a new program-record for a 36-hole tournament and matched the single-best round to par in Lynchburg history following two rounds of competition on the par-72 track at Blacksburg Country Club set to 6,619 yards. Hodgert finished second overall out of 93 players in the field, beginning with a Hornets' record-matching 5-under 67 over the opening 18 holes. That score tied Elias Haavisto from Averett University, who joined Hodgert in the clubhouse with the first round lead. Hodgert again went under-par in round two, posting a 2-under 70 for a new Lynchburg record 7-under 137 for the tournament. He came up one stroke shy of the medal, with Haavisto finishing at 136. Hodgert posted a tournament-best 13 birdies, including seven in the second round. His efforts helped Lynchburg tie for first overall with Christopher Newport University in the 17-team field. Both posted scores of 4-over 580, with Lynchburg's 282-298 round scores combining for a new team 36-hole record by five strokes over their showing at the 2018 Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate. CNU won the team playoff on the par-5 17th hole with two birdies and two pars compared to Lynchburg's one birdie and three pars. For the season, Hodgert leads Lynchburg with a 74.0 per-round average, which is tied for 13th in the ODAC.
