Quakers Finish Third at NCAA Men's Golf Championships

WHEELING, W. Va. --- The Guilford golf team finished up the 2021 NCAA Division III Championship in third place when play drew to a close at the Oglebay Resort & Conference Center in Wheeling, West Virginia on Friday afternoon. The Quakers finished 47-over-par with a combined score of 1179 (302-286-295-296). Guilford finished 24 shots off the pace established by team champion Illinois Wesleyan (+23, 1155) and 11 strokes behind Methodist, which finished second with a 36-over-par score of 1168.

The Quakers were led individually by the trio of James Mishoe and Jack Lee, who finished in a three-way tie for 12th, along with Addison Manring, who was one of eight players tied for 15th. Mishoe, who wrapped up the four-day event with a 12-over-par score of 295 (74-77-71-73), came through with three birdies and 10 pars on Friday afternoon.

Lee finished off the NCAA Championships with a 12-over-par score of 295 as well. Lee opened the tournament with a 76 and followed with a 71 and back-to-back scores of 74. In the fourth round he came through with a birdie at 12 along with 14 pars.

Manring joined his teammates among the Top-15 with a 13-over-par score of 296. Manring's final round 72 was highlighted by three birdies, all on the front nine at the second, fifth and eight greens. He also accounted for 11 pars over the course of the round.

Louis Lambert closed out his season by placing in a tie for 57th with a 22-over-par score of 305. Lambert drained birdies at the fifth and ninth holes along with 11 pars. Freshman Sam Davidson rounded out the scorecard by tying for 62nd. Davidson rebounded from a difficult day on the course in the third round, closing with a 23-over-par for the tournament and a 77 in the final round. Davidson's fourth round resulted in birdies at the third and 13th holes along with 10 pars.

Washington and Lee sophomore Pierce Robinson (Kings Mountain, N.C. / Thomas Jefferson Classical) placed in a tie for 50th, shooting a +3 score of 74 on Friday to complete the four-day event with a +21 score of 70-79-81-74—304. Robinson completed the 2021 season with a 73.9 season scoring average across 16 rounds played.  That is the fifth-lowest season stroke average in program history.

The individual crown went to Webster's Will Hocker, who finished two-over-par with a combined score of 285 (69-72-73-71). He edged out Robb Kinder (Christopher Newport) and Cooper Hrabak (Methodist), who both finished at four-over-par for the tournament.
