Beth Ann Townsend, Washington and Lee, Jr.

Townsend, a junior from Greensville, S.C., helped lead the Generals to a top-five finish at the NCAA Division III Preview hosted by Emory University at the PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., the host-site for the PGA Tour's Honda Classic each spring. The tournament featured seven of the top-20 schools in the country including 16th-ranked Washington and Lee. Townsend was consistent over her three days on the par-72 track set at 5,839 yards. She opened with 8-over 80 before posting a 9-over 81 in the second round. She followed that with W&L's best third-round score at 5-over 77 to tie for 13th at 22-over 238 with three other golfers including teammates Laurie Jones and Megan Kanaby. Washington and Lee placed fourth overall in the ultra-competitive field of 13 teams, posting a 101-over 965 (325-322-318). The tournament was the first of the season for the Generals.
